gdctus997 is infamous around these parts
Why not consider the 997S with the X51 for 381 bhp? It is still not going to have the turbo torque, but it will be fast and more refined.

Now a 3rd vehicle has entered the picture and it is a 996TT cab with X50. For the past couple of days, I have been reading each and every post regarding the differences between the cars and believe it or not, there is some good information to be obtained there.

When I get back into town and actually do some test driving I'll probably know which way to go. My bet though is that the forced induction of the TT will be hard to resist. I remember that I was wanting more power about a week after I finally broke in my '01 C2 cab. I anticipate the same with a new 997S. There has to be a "thrill ride" factor and an adrenalin rush that can only be obtained by forced induction. Considering that last statement, it sounds like the TT is right for me BUT. My last used car was the first car that I bought in high school. The TT is based on the 996 chassis and the 997 is supposed to be better and more refined. The 997's build quality is reported to be better. Most importantly, buying a car at the end of the model's run, just prior to the release of the new model, usually leads to buyer's remorse.
It sounds like your heart says 996tt and your brain says 997S. I think when it comes to purchasing cars, you would be happier in the long run by going with your "brain".

Doc you might explore a TT with enough warranty to get you through a couple of years w/o worry. Also gdctus997 has a valid point with the X51 package. Its so much cheaper, without the hassle, to buy what you really want, than try and settle for second best. My 997 seems to handle better than my old 2001 TT, but performance wise there is a vast difference.
Good hunting

Yup, looking at 2004 and newer cars with less than 10k miles that are CPOd. CPOd cars have 6 years 100k factory bumper to bumper warranties.

I love the 997S....better in many ways than the TT...but...

One look at my Black/Black TT....and there is just no contest..

Having a TT is like having a super power....can't touch it!
