Would 295/30R19 be OK to use with 19" Sport Classic wheels

My friend is interested in the Sport Classic wheels (8.5x19F-ET55 11.5x19R-ET67). These are to be fitted to his Porsche 997.1 Carrera S (MY2006).

For the rear, sport classic wheels (as come standard on 997 Sport Classic) come in 11.5x19. My question is, can we use 295/30R19 instead of 305/30R19 (recommended size for the sport classic 19 inch)? Because my friend just bought two new 295/30R19 tires two weeks ago.

How would a 10mm narrower tire (than the recommended tire size) affect the car's handling? Or is the difference too small to notice when driving, hard?

Anyone using 295/30R19 with 11.5x19 wheels?

i replaced the rear 305's on wife's '08 with 295's. We don't track the car but I haven't noticed any difference in handling as a DD. I push it pretty hard when she lets me drive it and it hasn't failed me.

This is accurate from a pure performance perspective.

Personally, I prefer the look of the 295's even though it's every so slightly more narrow. I like the shorter sidewall (yes I can clearly see the difference) and it doesn't harm my style of driving.

OP is asking if he can put 295's on 11.5 inch rim...the 295 is better suited for smaller rim - for example, PS2 lists rim width range of 10 to 11 with 10.5 as measured rim width - not sure what, if any, negative impact there will be.

Yah I wouldn't because as stated above the 11.5" width will be outside of the manufacturer's recommended range for a 295. At least all the 295/30/19's I've looked at max out at 11". 305 is really a better size for an 11" wheel. And btw, a 295/30 and a 305/30 have the same size sidewall. The 305 will be approx a 1/4" taller though in overall diameter due to more tread. And on the same size wheel it will probably appear noticeably bigger since it won't be as stretched as a 295.

Since it's "ever so slightly more narrow", you realize sidewall difference is thus even more "ever so slight". As in 30% (a la the 30 aspect ratio) relative to 10mm difference in cross section. Meaning less than a 1/4 inch all around...

That's correct so sidewall difference between 295 and 305 would be 3mm (10mm x 30%) - not sure my eyes are good enough to tell the difference.

IMHO - It's how the narrower tire wraps under... The 305 has a more square appearance with the longer width which add to the sidewall appearance. I'm aware of the measurements though.

I was told by my local P dealer that I "could" run 295s with the sport classics but they didn't recommend it. I opted for 305s.

the owner's manual says the car can use 295's for snow tires on our '08. Probably not the best for track driving but fine for a DD.
