Alfas have a long history of breaking down constantly and being underpowered, pretty to look at but lousy engineering.

true life, worst car I have ever owned was a 1979 Alfa spyder, unreliable money pit, prone to rust, beautiful lines, but unfortunately not a good car, love/hate relationship, true; I have not owned a newer model, so things might have changed, but as a fan of top gear, Clarkson and Hammond , who openly love alfas, claim things have not changed much, wouldn't risk buying one tough, but I have to admit it looks stunning.

Okay, my $0.02, and I'm not being sarcastic, just observing.

There was a time, I think, when writers and editors didn't think up stupid-a$$ headlines just to get attention. I guess now it is all about how many hits you get and how much ad revenue that generates. If the Alfa 4C competes with anything it would be the Elise and maybe, maybe the Boxster. But at only 3,500 units there doesn't seem to be enough inventory to compete with the former. No, I think Alfa knows their market and I would guess it is not someone who can't decide between a Porsche/Lotus or Alfa (besides, regardless of how mechanically flawed they may be, there are a lot of stalwarts out there - one of which is a friend of mine who owns three older/classic Alfas - two running and one in about 15 boxes of parts).

Anyway, the article is on the 6C and not the 4C but the same logic applies - but maybe more so as production will be even more limited. Maybe the 6C is a great car, maybe it is a dog, but it exists in a different universe than most 911 buyers live in as an either/or choice.

I have to say the 4C looks like a lot of fun and seems to fill the void left by the Exige. I already contacted the local Alfa dealer and asked them to let me know when they have one in, supposedly September.

Sure it doesn't have the prestige of a Porcshe, but do people really only buy a p-car for prestige? It very much looks like a drivers car and really does seem to perform how a sports car should. The construction of the car is also impressive.

I don't think Porsche will lose many sales to either the Alfa 4C or 6C, different markets. Doctors, dentists, and lawyers are not going to see much appeal in a noisy little two seater that drives more like a race car than a plush GT.

As to the reliability of the Alfa, as the owner of a vehicle that is plagued with IMS issues, scored cylinders, failing water pumps, control units that go faulty if you polish the headlights, etc, etc, I can't really say much :-)

The 6C sounds intriguing. The wife and I were turned off a little from the 4C, after we learned more about the car. It is quite purpose built (for light useable power, etc...). The 6C appears to bridge the gap between what we were hoping for - and actually receiving. My concern is the 911-competitior price tag.

I'm not longer concerned as I once was with reliability, as the components that go into these cars have been running in some form in other cars for several years.

That article is showing pictures of a 4C, the only renderings I've seen of a possible 6C are the over a year ago, which are more along the lines of the 8C.

I think all of those that are familiar with the 4C knew this regarding the pics.

The article was just touting rumors.

True, but nearly all the people I have spoken to about the 4C have never heard of it, surprises me, but you never know.

Roger. I agree. Even the Fiat dealership (where I was trying to order one) doesn't know as much as some here.
