1st 911 - how many did you look at before pulling the trigger?
I had been looking for probably a good year, what made it harder was because I was in and out of the country for business so often, so I missed a couple good deals. Stressed over 997.1 models and potential IMS/RMS issues. Originally decided to go with a 4S, looked at a few, drove one with PDK (lovely mint car, with sport bucket seats, 18k Miles). I would have probably gone with that had I not seen a 997.1 Turbo (37k Miles) ad go up that was within my price range. The Turbo wasn't as pristine as the 4S PDK I had seen, minor scuffs and wear in the interior and leather, but mechanically, it was great. PPI came through, and the test drive sealed the deal.
I actually wasn't looking. Took my wife's A6 in for service and mistakenly crossed to the other showroom. I have always wanted a 911, and currently had a newer boxster s. There I saw a white cab with a brown top and a manual transmission. Salesman offered a ride which I refused. Told him I needed to know if i could afford it, and more importantly if it passed the wife test. He then asked how quickly I would purchase with the right numbers. I replied as soon as $$$ was moved. After 3 days of haggling, accepted the deal, then drove it. 3-4 days later it was in my garage. I just hit 14K this week and its 18 months old. YEE HA.
I test drove 2 997.1 base, one 997.2 black series PDK. Then I met this older man who refused to let me test drive his car, he only allow me to sit in it and look around. When I try to wipe the dust off his car, he went nut saying I might scratch his car. All and all he was an **** guy but his car was in immaculate condition. Well, I knew I bought the right car from an **** guy
I purchased the 1st one I test drove. It wasn't much of a test drive though as it was more of a final check. It was pretty much all worked out over the phone, bottom line price, finance rate,PPI done all before I drove the 400 or so miles up to Livermore Porsche just to sign and drive it home.
I made the mistake of renting a 911 when my CR-V was in the body shop.I was instantly hopelessly hooked.I lurked the forums for a couple of months then Knowing exactly what I wanted when I found a good deal in my price range I pounced!

Browsed the internet on a daily basis, more of window shopping. Test drove 2 cars from two different Porsche dealerships in one day. Bought the second test driven car on the spot. That was 2.5 years ago.
Best feeling ever. I sometimes still can't believe I drive a 911.
Living the dream!

Actually none. I called to check on the Boxster I had ordered and the salesman explained that it was again delayed, but he would make me a deal on a 911. Went down and drove it home. On my 4th now.
I "looked" at hundreds but only drove a few before purchasing. Drove a 997 C4 cab to make sure I loved the 6MT gearbox, drove a 997 C2S (totally wrong color combo and price), to make sure it was as awesome as the 996 C4S I drove much earlier when the 997 was about to come out, and a few 996's and 996 TT's, one of which I almost bought. (glad I didn't)..
Found my 997 and bought it the same night I saw it online. I was just praying the owner (private sale) wasn't a D Bag because the car seemed perfect... He answered the phone and it was like speaking with someone I had known for years. He's a great guy and was super helpful. To this day, I know I got lucky with my purchase. Not to mention the price....

I spent the better part of a year looking at and test driving P cars before I bought mine. Oddly enough I started out looking for a 997.1 Carerra and after all the talking I did with various P dealers and service techs I landed on a 997.2 S car. For me the search was a lot fo fun and test driving a different P car each week for months was half the fun. BTW, I have the luxury of having two premiere Porsche dealerships each within a 10 mile radius of my home. That certainly helped. Good luck with the search!!!
