Strange Thing Happened Today...

Hi,

So I was accelerating out of a parking lot at normal speed and heard a progressively loud squeeking sound from behind me and I actually thought it was a truck. As I accelerated harder it got louder and louder and the car seemed to hesitate upon acceleration as I realized the disturbing noise was actually me. Then suddenly, the loud squeeling stopped and it felt like my car suddenly got full power back. Any ideas what this could have been? Seems to be fine now.

Thanks,
Jon

Yep, I could get behind this hypothesis. Belt slips. This causes the alternator to generate less electricity. Less electricity causes poor spark. Poor spark leads to loss of power.

When it stopped & you got full power back, did coincide with an upshift? When you upshift the engine revs drop, thereby giving the belt a better chance to grab hold.

When I got the power back it was mid acceleration from what I remember, but a slipping belt makes sense. Does this mean my belt tension need to be adjusted? Should I have this checked?

Probably would've only take 30 minutes if you had waited until you were finished to drink the beers.
