No. But with some effort you can use an updated 997.2 wheel with buttons or paddles. Would require an airbag and possibly a control module change.

I believe the 997.1 OEM steering wheel has two flavors: triangle airbag and round airbag. Steering wheel controls for tiptronic and/or PCM are only compatible with the triangle airbag style steering wheel. The sport steering wheel unfortunately is a round airbag and does not support any steering wheel electronic controls. There is just no room behind the round airbag to put the steering wheel control module.

My bad, I'm confusing tiptronic with multi-function. Yes the round airbag sport wheel comes in both manual and tiptronic. BUT - neither version supports multi-function PCM controls. Your question is about the tiptronic portion only, not multi-function. I think the tiptronic buttons should swap over without a problem. Just be sure to move the tiptronic wiring harness too.

Here's some part numbers for the 997.1 sport steering wheel with a round airbag.

Tiptronic:
997.347.804.50 Standard Sport
997.347.804.51 Sport Touch Feel
997.347.980.01 Full Leather Interior

6MT:
997.347.804.40 Standard Sport
997.347.804.41 Sport Touch Feel
997.347.980.00 Full Leather Interior

Wiring Harness (inside the steering wheel):
997.612.672.00 6MT without multifunction
997.612.674.00 Tiptronic without multifunction <-- be sure to move this over too

Can anyone help.

Hi all,

Have taken inspiration from this thread and am keen to upgrade my steering wheel.

I currently have the triangle airbag standard wheel. No multi function and I have a manual so no tip buttons either.

I want to swap for a 997.2 sport wheel but am struggling to find one in the right colour/spec but I have managed to find what appears to be the identical wheel from a 991. Again, it's not multi function or tip so I'm guessing it could be a relatively easy swap??

Visually (as far as I can see) there are no noticeable differences but I'm no expert and notice the 997.2 vs 991 wheels have different part numbers.

Part number for the 991 wheel I've found is 991.347.803.54 A34

Has anyone upgraded their wheel with a 991 wheel. Does it work and are the wheels the same?

Any help much appreciated.

Not sure on the 991 to 997.1 steering wheel swap. But another option to consider is DCT Motor Sports: http://www.dctms.com/product_ST_PCH_997_987.html

They custom build you a new one and ship it to you. You swap over your airbag & trim pieces. Then ship your old core back to them. Many options exist including color, flat bottom, thicker, perf leather, carbon fiber, alcantara, molded sides, colored trim ring on top, etc.

Here's mine during the swap over. I've since had the airbag trim paint matched to the galvano silver sides by Eric @ bumperplugs

I just got my wheel from DCT Motorsports, and I can't believe the difference it made. I'm thrilled with the look and feel. The price was right (around $600 plus core), delivery was fast, they gave great service, and have many available options.

My understanding is that airbag in the sport wheel changed from the 997.1 to the 997.2, so they are not interchangeable. I wouldn't necessarily take that info to the bank, though. The DCT website could likely clear that up. Good luck.
