Targa Owners

Greetings... I'm a long time lurker and first post here. Great forum you have here. I'm in the search phase and if I don't have a 997 within a month from now, I'd be surprised. I'll give a proper introduction when I purchase, but I did have a question for the Targa owners, as I am leaning towards a 997.2 Targa 4s.

Do any of you Targa owners regret buying the Targa or wish you had bought a different model? Are there any arguments you have for or against it? I'm familiar with the spec differences between the Targa and other models, so really what I'd like to hear are your personal opinions.

Also, if you have some pictures to share, they'd be much appreciated. I've seen some nice examples on here already, but maybe someone is holding back.

Thanks!

What's the general consensus on the chrome strop along the roofline? I kind of like it sometimes, but other times I think If I had a Targa I'd get it wrapped in black. I'm on the fence about it.

I had a 997.1 T4S and loved it. There is a limited market for Targas, but by the same token, they are rare and therefore unique. I loved the hatch for easier access to back, and loved the open feeling with the glass top. I almost never opened the top due to the impaired vision out the rear. I liked the chrome strip on my GT Silver body. My Champion RG5B wheels looked great IMO. Just decide if you like it or not, don't worry about what others think. I've seen no evidence that Targa owners have been disappointed in their purchase. Good luck in your decision making.

I think the Targa 4S is a beautiful and unique car. There's one that I see occasionally in my local area that's Nordic Gold. It's really nice looking.

2008 Targa 4s

My Targa with Complete Turbo rear = bumper, rear deck lid and spoiler.
Front GT3rs front bumper.

100% happy.. I will soon post pics with my chrome roof line vinyl wrap in black.
the only negatives i have not being able to view out the rear window with top glass open.
I had ordered a gt3 guage cluster and it wasnt compatible due to the roof option and hatch option. also giving me cel codes. i ended up having to sell the cluster.

But overall happy.

Gorgeous car, but those wheels don't do your car justice.

edit: I just re-read your signature and saw that you have a nice intake and exhaust system too. I had PSE, 200 cell cats and X51 headers on my Targa. It sounded wonderful. My Champion wheels had slightly less offset with wider rims, so filled the wheel wells nicely. Looking forward to more photos.

keninirvine,

Aware of wheels...Wheels came with car (new tires), so putting miles on them for now...
I want to focse on the exterior first, Im waiting on my gt2 side skirts and gt2 fender flares, these mods have set me back a bit, making my wheel purchase wait a bit..But i will focus on a nice set of 20' Strasse SM8 wheels with alot of rubber on the rear soon.

Hope you plan to keep that baby for a long time with all the money you're sinking into it.

Mine is for sale lol. I do like the Chrome Strip though with the GT silver it is not as noticeable (so that might be why). Good luck in your search sir.

Gorgeous car and wonderfully optioned. Terracotta/black is one of my favorites and very rare. GLWS.

I've been happy with mine. I do like the rarity of it, color included. Some people complain about noises related to the Targa hatch and panorama window. Mine had a rattle issue, but that is now fixed and solid as a rock. The roofline is slightly changed relative to a coupe because the Targa is a cab with a hard top. I don't mind it though. I really don't notice it unless parked right next to a 997 coupe. The Targa hatch has already come in handy several times. It really makes storage much easier and more flexible. Bottom line, if you find a Targa you like, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Thanks Omega! That was quick. I need to see a Terracotta interior in person to judge how orange it really is, but I like the contrast with the black dash.

It isn't as orange as many photos would suggest. It is an impossible color to properly render in photos. You have to see it in person.

If it is a warm, natural leather, rawhide color then I would really like it.
