Is third brake light wiring harness needed to add OEM 997.1 GT3 decklid to 997.1 C2S?
Hi All,
I am in the process of putting a 997.1 GT3 deck lid/wing on my 2006 C2S. Do I need to get the third brake light wiring harness? I don’t see why this is needed because I am not changing the factory third brake light panel above the deck lid. Is this because I have to relocate the fan and need a longer wiring harness?
Also someone said the GT3 fan is smaller than the stock C2S fan. Is this correct? Please share your experience. Thanks very much in advance.

My input isn't an exact match for your question but here is some tidbits that may or may not help.
I just switched to a Turbo wing and what I learned was the plug-in connector from the lid to the body is the same for all variants of these cars but how they are wired varies some. In your case your old wing has the extra brake light that would turn on and at the same time turn off the normal brake light in the panel. It turns out that this is due to a switch in the spoiler that flips when the spoiler is in its up position. With the Turbo wing, this switch is effectively locked in the wing-is-always-up position allowing the brake light in the spoiler to stay on all of the time and always turning off the brake light in the panel. (I switched to a smooth Turbo upper panel with no brake light and there was no problem with unplugging it).
In your case, there will no longer be a switch in the spoiler, so the question is whether the switch will default to being detected as "spoiler up" or "spoiler down". I don't know the answer for sure, but if it defaults to a spoiler down signal when not plugged in you are good. I would guess this is the case as I haven't seen posts from others replacing their wings with a static spoiler saying they have a problem with their brake light in the panel turning off.
I am aware from other posts that you will get an error code from your original spoiler being sensed as missing (no switch or motor detected). You can disable that with a Durametric Pro (I saw the option for no-spoiler-present when I borrowed one) or you can ask the dealer to do it with their PIWIs.
I would think that you could wait and see if you have any problems with using your current harness before spending the money to get a GT3-specific one (which is only about $80 bucks). Your dealer can always overnight one if time is urgent and you are having problems.
I did get a different fan with the Turbo and it appears the GT3 one is different from your stock one too. The Turbo one seems a bit flatter but and bolts up a little differently (fours points vs three). Again, you can always try to see if yours will bolt up and only order the proper one if there is a problem.

PIWIS must be used to change the coding. You will receive a spoiler error code at highway speeds. That is with the GT3 harness

you can use your oem wire in wing but you will need to canabolise it. It's 100$ for gt3 plus from suncoast and makes it mush cleaner... You then need to disable motorised wing cause you will get error in dash. Fan on gt3 is smaller and offset same as intake
You will need a new harness for a fixed wing spoiler, since you're no longer sending a signal to raise the spoiler. I found one at Auto Atlanta for about $75. You will also need to have the dealer clear the error code that will come up every time you hit 75 mph.
what about the intake, how do you re-route it? It is an OEM 997.1 GT3 deck lid not Aerokitk correct?

It is a real GT3 rear deck. I also bought a GT3 airbox and I will have to find a way to fit that to my 997.1 C2S. BR Racing in Los Gatos told me they have done this, I will have to do some research on that....
you may be better off buying an aftermarket intake to make it work. fabspeed for example.
i personally think the oem airbox is best though.
I really like the OEM 997.1 GT3 deck lid, especially the dual air scoop, along with the GT3 airbox it will be challenging fitting it into a Carrerra. Not big fan of canibalize to make things fit.
what about the oil tube, even with the shorter unit it still might not clear the big fan.
My setup is bit different but fit/look OEM.
- Aerokit GT3 deck lid modifed for second inlet.
- X51 intake
- GT3 throttle body and matching plenum
Good luck with the project, post up pics when done.

Thanks guys. I am thinking either just get an Aerokit decklid and not modify the airbox, or keep the GT3 air box and get the IPD/GT3 TB/GT3 MAS hose plus whatever silicon hoses to hook them up. The cost is similar either way.
Is the GT3 air box necessary when going with a GT3 throttle body? My wing is Aerokit, not GT3. I bypassed the Helmholtz resonator, but my intake is otherwise stock. I've been toying with the idea of a new plenum/TB, but don't want to open a can of worms.
I don't think it's required to have a GT3 airbox to go with the GT3 TB. I believe IPD provides a reducer hose as part of their competition plenum kit so you can reuse the standard C2S airbox.
See the attached photo. You can double check with IPD or one of their dealers.

I recently installed a turbo lid and wing on my Targa4s and I did use the factory 997s wiring harness to work. I did have to completely remove the wiring harness from the old wing and activate the one switch that controls the third brake light, very easy to do..
