very small metal pieces in oil filter
Agree with Cerbomark and Robocop305, a picture is needed. Some small number of black-pepper-sized or smaller flakes are completely normal, that is why the filter is there. If there was no metal to catch there would be no need for a filter.
I cut both ends of the filter element free so I can stretch the pleats out nearly flat for a close examination. On my last check, the filter in general looked very clean but I saw a few very tiny flakes with just normal vision over the entire surface, which stretches out to maybe three feet by four inches when flattened. I didn't resort to a microscope where doubtless there would be more. According to the forum response from Robocop (I didn't get a lot a responses, so thanks to Robocop again) and an old friend who is a high-end car indy, these are fully expected.
Here is a link to my post with a photo for comparison: http://rennlist.com/forums/997-forum...is-normal.html. If yours looks like this, the word I got is it is expected. (BTW, I'd expect that you'd see more on the very first oil change from experience with some of my prior motorcycles).

I wonder why the doctor driver stereotype even exist. Do doctors drive like old ladies? I know I don't

Or "Adult driven". Seems like a similar pointless claim IMHO
Stormrune, thank you for posting the link. The pictured filter is a fine example of normal debris. I will suggest to have the oil analyze by Blackstone labs and buy a magnetic plug. It's cheap insurance.
