Karl B is infamous around these parts
My car is a late 2006 S and I used the engine serial number to determine that I have the later dual row bearing.
Today they took the IMS bearing cover off and they inspected what they could of the bearing. I went with the Dirrect oil feed cover and adapter since it is a major job to change it.

Actually there is a way to change the bearing without taking the motor apart, they machine off the the lip that holds the bearing in. Then it's just like replacing the bearing in an early car. Still more work than an early car, I thought that since I have a dual row bearing already, and there is no visible damage, or magnetic particles on my oil plug, I would go with the DOF ims cover.
The failure rate of the later dual row bearing is very low, I track the car so I would be the worse case example. While it was there I had them install some other expensive parts.

Well everything went back together and the car is running great. With all the new suspension it sure is stiff, feels like a different car. I am going to the zone 1 DE at VIR so that will be a good test of all the work.
The DOF is insurance, I know that the failure rate of the M97 is very low but now I feel I have done everything I could to prevent a problem. It's the first one they have installed and they liked it a lot.
