Bose in the 997 worth it or not?

I am still picking out all my options i want before i place the order. Naturally, i would like to keep the price down if i can. So far the Carrera S Coupe i am building cant stay under 105k. I would have liked to stay under 100k but its not going to happen. Now, before i add anything else, the only thing i am stuck on is the Bose system in the car, is it worth it or not? I heard a carrera s with it at the dealer, it sounded ok, but for a weird reason all the ones in the showroom had it so i was not able to compare it to a regular system. Is it worth it? does it sound much better then the standard system? I love a stereo to sound great, and like to play music on the loud side, but then my other side of me wants to keep the car kind of raw since i plan to put muffler bypass pipes on. But in all honesty, how much better is the bose syetem then the standard?

This is a no-brainer option....you don't want to modify the optic system later so you might as well pull the trigger on the BOSE. It sounds much better than stock and plays MP3 CDs as well which gives you up to 100 songs on a single CD.

Do it!

I have an 05 and have had several cars with a bose system. With the smaller cabin, the bose set up is a great option. I have a rattling noise on the front left mid but nothing a trip to the dealer won't fix. I do wish I had the capabability of playing MP3's......

Bose sucks as usual but it's better than nothing. i'm not a big audio guy so i find the best music is the engine & the driving rhythm. i say if u're coming from MB then get it but if u're worry about the Bose too much maybe this is not the perfect car for u.

Once again, this is a major no brainer. The standard system in Porsches are absolutely terrible. The Bose system is actually good. Its loud and clear. I love my system. Too bad my car is a lemon otherwise.

I just did a 1400 mile trip in my Carrera S WITH Bose, and loved it! It's definitely worth the extra money. It's very easy to get carried away with options - most of which you'll never get money back on at resale - but if you like the options, go for it. I highly recommend Adaptive Sports Seats also.

Get it or you'll spend several thousand re-wriring the system. I had a Cayenne as a loaner w the stock stereo. It was about as bad as a Camry! Bose is worth every penny even if it's not audiophile.

Ok, well it sounds like its worth it. The reason i am getting this car is i would like a real sports car, which is why i need something different from a Mercedes which i never had. I am tired of an auto tranny and a quiet car. So this bose is not really needed, infact, if it had no stereo i would still buy the car! But the bose may be nice for long drives or in traffic.

Reason i asked was in my previous mercedes the bose systems were terrible. Now Mercedes put the Harmon kardon in and i like it. Sounds better then the Bose in the porsche, but again, it wont stop me from buying the car one bit.

You're the first one I heard that likes the HK over Bose. IMO, HK is overrated. They're better off sticking to amps in homes.

Tell us what other options you are getting. We can help you pare it down.

I had the Bose in my '02 996 and liked it. The 997 Bose sounds quite a bit better then the 996 system IMO. I am not an audiophile though.

I guess I will be the loan dissenter--I listened to both the Bose upgrade and the stock system in 997's. First, either one will play Mp3 disks, so that's not an issue.

Secondly you need to listen to them when driving--the engine and road sounds drown out much of the differences you will hear when just playing either system standing still.

When I listened to the Bose, I ended up defeating the surround sound and turning the bass down to -3. For me, that pretty much sealed the deal and I passed on the Bose.

I will say this--if you will mostly be listening to FM stereo music, you probably will want the Bose. I have no complaints with the base system on cd's but on FM stereo, the bass response from the base system is lacking. Not a big issue for me since I mostly listen to MP3 cd's.

In the final analysis you need to hear both systems for yourself. Too often posters compare apples and oranges--i.e., 997 with Bose to a 996 with standard audio. That's misleading. The 997 standard audio is much better than what was standard audio in the 996.

Bose sucks..but better than not....

If you really love music, get the base system and spend the money on a real sound system for your Porsche.....

Bose is not worth the dough...
