Talking 997s ROCKS

hi there

i had a 996 4s sold that after two years and drove it every single day

a few days ago i drove my freinds 997s and it was FAST VERY VERY FAST i think its just as fast as a 996 turbo that i have driven many times and just 2 days before i tried the 997s

such a great car and its much better q and u can feel that porsche has put in alot more efrrot and $$$ and R and D into the 997

but i still look back at my 996 ownership with fond memories and we have to give them credit as the jump from the 993 to 996 was huge

I know how you feel. I had a 997TT in speed yellow for a while. I loved that car for the most part. However it was a Tip and I never could get over the fact it wasn't a 6 speed. I now have a 997 with the manual trans and a couple minor cosmetic mods. With only 1450 miles on her I haven't really gotten above 5000 rpms but she will stay up with traffic, LOL.
I always wanted a 993 but never could find the right one at the right time.
Best of luck

Doc

very fast? I'm sorry, but I dont think so.. my 997C4S just clocked about 1300miles today and I punched it the first time today....
up to about 5000rpms... i was surprised of the lack of torque it has... my mitsu evo8 is much much faster when it had only 310whp.. i dont know why, but i have to say that i'm quite disappointed with the performance of this car... and also the handling, my evo with just springs handles much much better, takes the turns better.. for you guys who thinks that the 997S is very fast, i guess maybe, just maybe, you have not driven anything faster than that... test drive the mitsu evo8 if you have a chance and let's see what you guys think.. not trying to be arrogant here, just sharing my thoughts
i guess for a car that's almost 4 times the evo8, it should be better than it is right now...

PS: you see that I listed a 996 GT2 below. I have not driven it yet, it is my dad's and it is in Indonesia, cant wait to try it this december...

My Evo had 326 WHP and Tein coilovers and it didn't feel much faster and it certainly didn't handle better than my 997S.

I must admit, at times my 997S feels extremely sluggish. As if it is short of breath. However, sometimes it feels a lot faster. Its hard to explain. Sometimes, lesser cars might feel faster because they are poorly built. When a car can cash its own checks it doesn't feel as fast. Eg- Doing 100 in my Range rover feels a lot faster than doing 100 in the Porsche. I need to hit 140 to get pumped. You need to drive this car hard at all times or else it will fall asleep. Use it or lose it. Take your heavy four wheel drive convertible out there and jam it around with reckless abandon!!

I do feel the same too, sometimes its just so slow that I dont feel any torque at all... some other times its ok.. i'm not actually talking about speed, i'm actually talking of how hard it pulls, and compared to my evo, the c4s pulls much less harder..
much less torque...

The Evo is a great car and easy to wring big hp out of, but no match for a 997S in refinement, looks and linear power.

true, but I enjoy both cars very much, in a different way..
I enjoy the evo for the handling and power it has, while for the c4s, I enjoy being in a Porsche, and moreover its a cab..

Jak-GT2, I agree with you to a certain degree but at 5,000 RPM's is when these car's wake up and start to pull. If you let off @ 5K then you are missing all the fun.
