So my 23K miles '09 C2 is in for yearly service, but I had also noticed a howling sort of noise when the car was cold (~50F) that would come on with braking and / or acceleration from a stop for the first 10 minutes or so of driving.


Turns out the steering rack is leaking and needs to be replaced. Bad luck or is this a normal thing - OK, not normal, but not unheard of for such a low mileage car?


Where would it leak to? I have seen nothing on the garage floor at all. Or does it all leak out on the road only - seems odd.

 

Do a search on the site, I found several posts regarding this issue. Still seems unusual for a car with only 23k miles but I guess the seals and o-rings could go bad with age and lack of use.

 

Yep - that was the diagnosis: not enough driving.

 

Drive the car, 997s don't seem to be appreciating!

 

I don't spare it on purpose, I just don't have much of anywhere to go - I have to get creative in the spring and get it out somewhere nice.

 

"Oh, you need me to drop that off at the post office dear? Sure thing, be right back"
