Issues with 996 also in 997?

Hi guys,

just wanted to know if the issues with IMS, RMS, etc .. are also present in 997, as I'm contemplating a 2008 997.

Reading about possible issues (and engine failure) made me keep away from 996, but looks like 997 is more advanced and less likely to have major engine issues.

Please school me, thanks.

As for the IMS problems, I think (from what I've heard) still apears on the early 997's.
2005?

2009 is the first year with the new 9A1 engine and no IMS RMS worries.

IMSB failure can occur in the 997.1 naturally aspirated engines, but it seems to be quite rare. The early 2005 cars seem to be the most problematic of the 997 series, but again, it appears to be rare.

Other common shared issues between the 996 and 997 include: water pumps, window regulators, and window micro switches. I'm sure there are more....

Most problematic in the 2005's but and easier fix then 06-08's.

06-08 you need to bore out an opening and add the new IMS bearing. My friend just had his IMS bearing on a 2002 996.2 replaced when his original factory clutch needed to be replaced at 145,000. While in there they replace the RMS and IMS bearing. The mechanic said the original IMS bearing was in perfect condition. Most IMS problems seem to be from low mileage garage queens with dirty oil. The ones that are driven and have actual miles put on them and oil changed routinely will have long life on everything. I physically saw the IMS bearing that was taken out and had a new one side by side and the seal cover and spinning of the bearing were identical.
