2nd is a little tough to get into when cold. I try to not force it, to avoid grinding the gears, until it warms up.

maybe we should define "COLD".... Are we talking car or outside temps? I pull out of 50 degree garage and have no issues.

2009 997.2 S here. Oddly enough what I have found is the less time my car spends in the garage the better everything about it feels including the shift between all the gears. Shifting is smooth as butter. Upon initial start, and until such time that the oil temp reaches 175 - 200 degrees, 1st to 2nd is a little tight but nothing that would concern me.

Try Mobilube PTX in the transaxle from SunCoastParts.com. 3 liters. It makes a terrific difference in shifting.

i do. Mobilube PTX did not make much of a difference. I have Numeric shifter and cables ready to go in when I get some time, as are my stiffer tranny mounts. Here's hope one of these will address the problem.

I have the same second gear crunch on my 2010 997.2. I have to admit that I have not noticed how much better it gets when it gets warmed up, I'll have to check. I have not worried too much yet as I still have CPO coverage. I drive very little in the winter so was planning on having it checked out at the dealer with my spring service. Might try changing the lube as mentioned above. Good luck

Porsche OEM Short Shift Kit will do the job.

Haven't grinded second gear since!

It also feels like how the car should have come factory.

Just an update on my 2nd gear crunch situation. I installed the numeric shifter & cables at the end of December and have had 3, crunch-free weeks since.

2nd gear isn't the problem on our 997.1. 1st is the tough one when cold. after it warms up it is smooth as glass.

2011 997.2 with OEM short shifter. When cold, as defined by FL temps, 1st is difficult and 2nd crunches slightly.
