Advice on tyres please

Hi,

I just brought a set of forged 20" wheels, could someone recommend a good tire size. My car is 2006 C4S. Want to keep them close to the original 19" dimensions.

Wheel Sizes

20"x9.5 weight 24lbs

20"x11.5 weight 27 lbs

So far I have seen these sizes across the forum 245/30-20 and 325/25-20.

Your best bet is to go to Tirerack web site, select your car and then change the wheel sizes. You are not going to find a lot of choice (maybe just one with Pirelli), they will be expensive and there have been many threads about not going to 20 inches on the 997.1.

Yes, 20" looks good but the ride (...and your back) will suffer.

245/30 and 325/25, you don't have a lot of choices, it's either Michelin or Pirelli's. Both are expensive. Michelin PSS will provide a better ride than Pirellis', contrary to popular belief, your ride will not suffer. My 20"s PS2's ride smoother and softer than most 19"s on Nitto's, Pirelli's, and Bridgestones. My avatar above are 20"s on PS2's and my signature picture below is 19"s on PSS. Both are fantastic tires.

I was running 245/30 and 325/25 on my 20"s, I am currently running 19"s. 235/35 and 305/30.

I have 305/25/20 and 245/30/20 w/ PSS on a '06 C2, and the ride is quite harsh. The wheels (HRE597r) came with the car and they do look awesome, but that's about it.
My first two sets of tires were Pzero Nero and they are even harsher than the Michelins.
This spring in going to shop for a new set of 19s and possibly get rid of my 20s.
Here are some other things to consider:
- bent wheels (20" are less forgiving)
- less traction
- curb rash
- interior rattling
- higher cost for new wheels

Thx again for the advice, do you really get the interior rattling and less traction ? I had a 7 series which I went from 19" to 21" alpina wheels . I dont recall losing traction and really wasn't much difference in ride quality. Whats everyones else thoughts on traction I have the 4s so that should take care of that right ?

If you live in the Atlanta area, you're more than welcome to take a ride in my car.
With a lower aspect ratio on your tires /25F and /20R, the car will have a tendency to break traction before than a car with /30F and /35R. Also the car's ability to absorb the energy from the road is reduced when you have a lower aspect ratio tire. Also, when the tire tread gets low, the ride gets even harsher. The difference between the two wheel sizes is going to be by varying degrees. But, based on my experience, driving my car for the last 8 years with two different types of tires, I cannot wait to get smaller wheels, with larger aspect ratio to enjoy a more forgiving ride.

I agree with you, 20s look awesome, it's the reason for me buying my car in the first place. But, when it comes to DD, DE and AutoX, 18-19s is what was designed for the car, for a reason.

So much of the ride and feel of these kind of cars comes down to the tires - "where the rubber meets the road" is not a random saying.

Thanks! My post is based on true experience and not assumption. Many people on the forum assume 20"s in more rough, logically thinking they aren't wrong, less rubber usually equals rougher ride.
