Aw ****. Water pump took a dump....need help.
Was in the car s long time today. Car did not overheat and I stopped eventually to grab a coffee--and came out to the car dripping behind the drivers rear tire. The expansion tank is still 95+ percent full. I'm about a mile from home and wondering if I can safely drive the car home. Not wanting to risk it but there's just a steady drip coming from the water pump. Perhaps 16oz on the pavement....All signs point to no, but it's not a catastrophic leak.....

Well F it. Not overheating and it's just a drip. Got home in 5 min and I have a can under it. Needle never got past 175f. Question is do I go for a pump, seal, serpentine belt and hoses or what? No warning lights on either as to coolant loss.

Yes 104k, might as well agreed. Question is has anyone tried the other pumps offered by Pelican? 1-200$ versus almost Suncoast at 319$.

What I have come across is while some have opted for non-Porsche water pumps they often do not last very long. You got over 100K miles out the stock pump. Why risk getting something that might not last as long or worse fails in a much worse way?

You won't regret going with the Porsche pump. I had a water pump go out on my Cayenne at 88K miles, replaced it with a Laso pump (an OEM supplier). That pump failed at 98K miles. Running on a Porsche pump now that has 35K miles on it with no issues.
Only other items to consider might be belt tensioner, and idler pulleys. Do make sure you give those a thorough inspection if you decide not to replace.

- Get a Porsche genuine pump. These pumps have plastic impellers that will not destroy your engine if something goes wrong. Most aftermarket parts have metal blades that may cause some damages inside your engines. Porsche pumps are around $340 currently. Get the gasket, too.
- Change the thermostat and gasket. About $64 + 8.
- Change some hoses if you feel inclined to.
- Change serpentine belt ($54)
- Check carefully pulleys.
- Use an airlift ($130 at amazon) 550000 to create vacuum and insert the coolant.

I'll have a how to do it, in a few days, but there are plenty of info on the forums.

I put a catch can under the car yesterday when I got home, and it maybe dripped 2-3 tablespoons of coolant overnight. Maybe a depressurization keeps the system from leaking? Dunno.
I forgot a tensioner and hoses Yves. I will for sure order hoses. Look at them!

Ordered a tensioner pulley. Might as well and mine was noisy until I removed my exhaust for a while. Reinstalled exhaust and it had disappeared/ warmer weather alleviated it? Gotta find hoses next.
