I have a tranzit blu so use the hands free microphone if I need to chat, which is like never. Main reasons I like the phone at eye level in front is so I can use it for navigation/waze, control music (Bluetooth streaming but can more easily change songs, etc), and because I ran a lightning cable up there so I could charge my phone.

megachimp is infamous around these parts
I 3D modeled and printed a custom holder that fits into the center console ashtray. It uses the iMagnet mount so my phone sticks to it. It angles/positions the phone perfectly. I didn't want to mount it in front of a vent or radio or stuck to the windshield like most available mounts do. Works great.

yeah Megachimp,
you can't make something like that without offering us a chance to buy one from you. I would like mine in black, with 'Porsche' inscribed in tan or white.

Heh, sure thing. I'll put a little more info here since others have expressed interest too.

Here's the custom piece. It fits perfectly snug into the ash tray. Was a pain getting those measurements perfect.

Here's it in action (in my old cayman) I made the inside hollow so that I could stuff a cord down in there to make it cleaner

The imagnet can be had from amazon for $20. I usually get my stuff printed on shapeways.com. I think this model cost $45ish when I had it done. The good news is if you wanted one you could print it in whatever color you'd like.

If you guys are serious about wanting one, I'll set the model up on shapeways so that you can order one yourself. Oh, and for obvious reasons, this might not be the best solution for those with three pedals. The shift **** on PDK doesn't hit the phone and I'm pretty sure it would be fine in a manual car, but just might be a little weird. Not sure.

Megachimp,
can you tell us how to order on safeway? That space on my Porsche is unused; would be nice to fabricate something I could stick in it to make use of the ashtray.

Here is my solution, since my car is a manual my hand is by the shifter anyhow and it makes it perfect to slide my finger over the screen to chase songs on Spotify, also to use the phone navigation, I hear it over the car speakers and can see the map right in front of me as well, I have the nav-tv tooki Bluetooth combo so need to plug the phone for the media, phone is via Bluetooth, and easy to reach center button on iPhone to instruct Siri.

Megachimp, I meant 'shapeways'.

I have Bluetooth, etc., also, but still need to keep my phone somewhere. I won't keep in my pockets (don't want pancreatic or testicular cancer !!! )

I went ahead and started a new thread about this since I've received so much interest. Check this thread out for details on how to order your own ashtray mount

I got the cheapy magnet mount that mounts on the CD slot. Thought it was worth a shot at $5! This put the phone right at the top of the radio/navi display and in front of the hazard light switch. Since I don't use the car navi anyhow, it work out. Installs in no time and good spot.

I had my doubts in terms of magnet not holding and fit. The magnet holds just fine and it's the best feature since you can quickly take the phone off when exiting the car. I thought the magnet would interfer with the function of the phone but no issues. In regards to the fit on the CD slot, though the fit isn't snug, it's tight enough never fell out. Just droops a little.
