I can't imagine very important. The only time I see this maybe important is if you're forced to park in the hot sun for extended periods. The vented seats will cool off the quickly.
wife just bought a macan s with ventilated seats that blow cool air. I only feel it a bit on my back. We've only had a few days approaching 90 here in central texas so experience is limited. I would rather have the neck scarf in the winter that the Mercedes had. it definitely worked.
If you ever have a problem with your back getting sweaty you won't with these. That doesn't make them a must, but now that I'm used to it this will be high on the list of "would really like to have" items for future cars.
Interestingly, while you perceive that the seats are blowing air on you, they are not. The seats actually pull air from the cabin into the seats through the pores on the surface and out through the back and bottom. Here are a couple of excerpts from a Porsche tech book I have.
I like them - they were on my must have list. As the diagram above indicates, they pull air in - any air. That means in the winter with the heat, they pull heat through. It also means don't run them on a hot day in the summer with the windows down!
So this just draws in ambient cabin air. On the Lexus, it actually blows air outward. In the long run, wouldn't the perforations or orifices get clogged up?
For me, the vented seat are a must. But you have to use it with the A/C on, and not wearing any heavy clothe or you can't feel it. It would work best if you wear a short and an athletic breathable material shirt.
The air gets sucked in, not blown out. Also, the fan is kind of noisy at full capacity.
