Paint Gearshift Cap for MT

Gents,

I'm looking for a handy DIY suggestion for painting the cap on my new carbon fiber gear shift on my 2010 C4S Cab. I swapped out my standard shifter for a carbon fiber unit last year when I added my SSK. It looks great, but I'd like to add color to the shift pattern which is currently a bit grimy but basically the same color as the silver cap. Has anyone successfully painted this to make this pop a bit more? I'm looking for some guidance so I don't mess this up!

I've posted a pic below for what my current set up looks like now. I'm thinking painting the shift pattern either black or something more interesting, like red or even orange. Any thoughts on the best way to do this?

There is a post here or Rennlist that showed how he painted his using model paint and a small brush. He went with red and it looked good.

Cool, thanks guys. I posted a similar question on the Rennlist forum and found 2 guys who have done this and kindly posted their DIY instruction. I think I'll give it a whirl this week, and I'll post up my results - if it turns out well

FYI,

Here's the thread on this topic on Rennlist that has a lot of great DIY help and some pretty good pictures of successful projects: http://rennlist.com/forums/showthrea...0&goto=newpost

So after everyone's great DIY help on this, and motivated by the pics that were posted, I hit the paint store this afternoon and knocked this out this evening. It was as just as easy as everyone said, and I think it turned out great. Here's my set up for this small job, and how it looks installed for my commute to work tomorrow!

Here's what it looked like an hour ago...

Here's my workspace - the kitchen

Finished and drying ....

Installed!

I used PlasiDip on my "engraved" AMG rims on my Merc using red color. This way , if not happy with result, you can just peel it away..I expect the plasidip to last a long time . BTW, just spray and wipe off overspray.
