recommendations on transmission rebuild

I have a 2006 997.1 manual that needs a transmission rebuild. If someone can recommend a reputable shop that handles the work around northern NJ.
The car was always a notchy from 1st to 2nd when I first got it and would occasionally grind into 2nd. I tried Bruce in philly's recommended PTX oil, but as he stated it wouldn't solve the problem and it didn't. Now 2nd gear has gotten real bad and keeps popping out of 2nd.

No experience with this company but its name comes up in discussions of late model Porsche tranny/diff rebuilds.

You would have to remove and ship the tranny. You would have to do this no matter which shop you use unless you find one close enough that you could hand deliver the transmission.

For this possibility, you can check ads in Excellence and Panorama and I'm sure come across some companies advertising transmission rebuilding services. If you can find one closer to you that you believe can do you a good job well, there you go.

Oh, while Guard Transmission doesn't rebuild transmissions it has a list of dealers/shops that install its hardware. Visit:

http://www.guardtransmissionllc.com/

and click on link under "Dealers" for a shop maybe in your area that could do the rebuild.

Best of luck.

Thanks Macster. I contacted a dealer through the website. Hopefully I can drop the car off this weekend and see what they have to say.

lord...it cost me just under $9000 to get my tranny rebuilt...honestly - Porsche resale values is the only reason I decided to do it. Any other car I would have walked...

Thanks DrJordan for your input. Hopefully talking to a few people the cost won't be as high. I'll keep everyone posted.

I didn't get it done. The shop just zeroed in on the shifter and shifter cable. It helped enough to not need a tranny rebuild.

i know this is a dead topic but which shop did you take your car to? I have the same issue since I swapped out my shifter. The second gear pop out is annoying.
