Hi all, My car has been throwing a secondary air system error (P01491-02 and P0492-02). My mechanic says the secondary air intake pump is bad and to replace it requires dropping the engine and removing the intake manifold ($$$$). Since my understanding is that this is an emissions control device and we don't have smog checks where I live, is there any downside to ignoring this CEL? Thanks.

 

What year is your car? The emissions control system may have a mandatory term much longer than the regular warranty, like 10 years.

 

If you leave the CEL on and just drive the car and something else goes wrong with the engine that could potentially be harmful to the engine you won't know because the light is already on for the 2nd Air.

 

My car is a 2007 with over 100,000 miles so doubt it would not be covered by warranty.
