Hi guys I have a 997.2 C2S that i use as a daily--it's surface streets 15 miles one way. I read another thread that it's not safe for long term heath to drive short distances. Just wanted to clarify what this means exactly.

I'd imagine the proper health would depend on maintenance and oil changes

I want to balance not abusing the car but also enjoying it (this is not a garage queen to me). TIA

 

As long as you're getting your engine oil fully up to temperature, you're fine, and a 15 mile commute isn't the short distance we're talking about - a 3 mile one would be. You should be fine. Enjoy.

 

15 miles is not short distance; that's more than enough time to get the engine up to operating temp and get a solid drive out of it. I had a <3mi commute for a short while; did not feel too happy driving my car (RS6, not yet a 911) that short distance. Now my commute is 6 miles one way and it gets warmed up in that time, too.
