Pleasant surprise on 997 purchase

So...I've been a member of the forum (not too active) for a bit via my 958 S. Loved the Cayenne, but longed for a 911 for as long as I can remember.

Finally pulled the trigger on a 2006 C2S and got it home after a long drive from Louisiana to Kentucky. It's was a great deal on a low mileage, great condition 997...it got even better.

I'm 100% new to the car and had no idea re: how it is "supposed" to sound.

My buddy took it around the block and told me, "Dude...this is not stock."

We start digging and find:

1. Fabspeed tips
2. Tubi exhaust
3. Werks 1 airbox

I'm equal parts embarrassed/excited that I'm such a noob. 😜😂

Will post pics later after ceramic coating and full detail...just had to share the excitement with folks who would appreciate this!

Same thing happened to me when I bought my first 997 (-06 C4S). Thought the exhaust sounded amazing but not like the similar cars I had driven earlier. Turned out it too had a Tubi exhaust. A matter of taste of course but to me the Tubi is the best sounding exhaust for the 997.1 cars. As for the Werks 1 airbox, I have no clue what it does or add to the car. But given that the previous owner picked the best and one of the most expensive after market exhausts, I'd like to think it's a good thing.

That airbox cost someone $3,000 and is the finest aftermarket airbox available for the 997.1. All carbon fiber and draws in cold air from the decklid like the OEM one. I almost bought one a few years ago but it wouldn't clear my supercharger pulley.

You got a great exhaust too in that Tubi. With the Tubi and the Champion airbox, I wonder if your car doesn't have Champions F77 package on it. Call them and provide the VIN and see if they have a record of doing it on your car. That would also involve a tune done to your DME for more power.

Congrats on the new car!

Yeah...Honestly, that was how I felt...after only driving Cayennes, I wasn't 100% sure what to expect. My only other experience driving a 911 was a buddies 996 C4S. It was so long ago, I couldn't remember the exhaust note anyway. That said, as I drove it back home, I kept thinking, "Man...this looks, feels and sounds like a racecar." I guess I was right! :-)

Best thing about it all...I felt great about the purchase after looking up the prices of all that work...in my mind, nobody spends money like that on a vehicle they're not taking care of.

Thanks! That's actually a good point...I should check on that!

Called Champion today and forgot about the HURRICANE headed their way. I told them I'd call back. 🤦🏻*♂️
