Borla exhaust for 997S

Hi guys. Borla is working on the prototype exhaust for the 997s. Just wanted some input. They are using a very similar tip to stock, but in chrome. Do you think the 3.5" tips would look better? .5" over stock. They looked like they filled out the space a little better. There are some minor fitment issues they are working on, but you guys can expect top notch sound and fitment once they get mine fabricated. Borla is top notch, and they run a first class operation. Great people to work with. Always good to see people who really enjoy and take pride in what they do.
I have been reading that they have these ready for the 997s. I can assure you 100% that they are still working on the S model. The 997 one is definetly ready, and from what I have heard, it sounds killer. Ill keep you guys posted for anyone thats been waiting on a Borla for the S.

I am strongly considering the Borla, but I have not seen any pics of the mufflers themselves or any decent soundclips. I thought these are supposed to be available now and that the part numbers for the 997 and 997S are the same...

Good to hear! I'm assuming you are working with Ted Wofford, who handled the lenghty R&D on my car (4 months). Great people over there. I'm also assuming that they're going with the same tips on my car which are the rolled polished quad tips?

Dave Borla was going to use my car for the "S" fitment...now I know why he never called back. According to Borla they are a month away or more for the Borla. They aren't releasing any kits until the "S" is done.

Yes, working with Ted and Dave. V35, they are using the same tips, but they showed me a 3.5" rolled, which looked a little nicer. I think they used the mockup from your 997 for my S. It was off by a bit. There is bolt coming out of the cats, that blocks the piping from fitting right. Its really close, so this should be an easy fix. They are hoping to have the fitment done by next week. Hopefully production will be soon after that. If it sounds anything like V35s, im gonna be a happy camper.

Please be sure to get some sound clips if you can. I have contacted several vendors and have gotten pricing between $1k to $1050 for the Borla, which is a great deal compared to other brands. I just want to listen to a few soundclips before dropping money into the Borla, otherwise I will have to go with something else.

I've got a feeling the 997S might be obsolete before Borla gets their product to market. Their R&D and subsequent fitment/testing is way behind schedule.

If you have a deal on another exhaust system you should consider it.

In that case I can't decide between fabspeed and AWE...

i was waiting for the borla mufflers too since i decided to keep my car for a while longer.
deal came up on a fabspeed set with the tips so i couldnt pass.
i have had the AWE before and i think dave would agree that with mufflers alone the car doesnt sound incredibly louder. different and nicer, yes but not much louder. the entire system sounds better.
the borla for 1050 with tips brand new is a steal.

Hmm so if I just got the muffler bypass pipes would that be too loud or moderately acceptable? I had a full SS setup on my M3 that was loud and it sounds like just the AWE or Fabspeed muffler will be much quieter by your description.

alot of people here like the bypass pipes and wouldnt go any other way.
for some reason i think i might get annoyed by it after a while.
why dont you just take your mufflers off and drive around for a while and see what you think?
whenever i had a female passenger or one of my parents in my car i even felt my awe mufflers were annoying for them. most other people couldnt even tell i had upgraded the mufflers.

So which mufflers are louder? Fabspeed or AWE? Are the Borla ones supposed to be louder? If so I may just wait out for the Borla...

.5 sounds better, nothing too large and obnoxious. I'd hate to see them approach some of the Eisenmann sizes that were on the E46 M3s, yeesh!

Definetly gonna put up some clips as soon as its ready. They are also dynoing the car with the exhaust alone, and exhaust plus header, so we should see if there are any gains to be had. Car is bone stock, so should give everyone some #s to work with.

Stock size looked good, but part of changing the exhaust is appearance also. It looked better without going too crazy.
