Help! Whistling noise coming from the engine bay

Hi All,

Hoping somebody here can help identify what this noise is:
(starts about 11 secs into video)

Some additional notes:
  • It occurs in warmer weather after the car has been driven for a while (about an hour)
  • only hear it at idle - haven't noticed any noise during acceleration or revving
  • had the following preventative maintenance done last year
    • new water pump
    • new serpentine belt
    • replaced alternator one-way pulley
    • replaced spark plugs and coils
  • mufflers have been Fister Modded (thought it might be whistling from the mufflers, but it seems to be coming from engine bay)
Any guesses?

TIA

Sounds more like a squeal than a whistle. Could be a bad bearing on one of the belt driven components. The fact that it starts and stops seems to indicate it may be related to something that actively engages and disengages while running like the AC compressor clutch.

You can start diagnosing by removing the serpentine belt and spinning each of the pulleys. They shouldn't spin too freely, and shouldn't have any wobble or play if you try wiggling it.

Thanks! Now that you mention it, I do only notice it after driving in hot weather (AC is typically on)... haven’t noticed any sounds in cooler weather (AC off). The car is going in for issues with the Targa top next month so I'll have them take a look t the pulleys. Cheers!

The water pump was replaced last year but it’s at the shop right now and he also thinks it’s the water pump... so they’re going to replace it again. Fingers crossed.
