Emission Inspection: ODB2 failed to connect
Emission Inspection: ODB2 failed to connect
Hi everyone,
Background: November 2021 new battery replaced, afterward drove approx. 100 miles then parked for winter with battery tender connected. Yesterday 4/09/22, took her out drove 50 miles then to a local inspection station (done by Porsche AD past 8 years ). Because of an intermittent starter hot starting issue, ODB2 module was connected while engine running . We tried several time without success. Then technician try the car behind me and his OBD2 module connected fine.
Possible causes:
Blown fuse? go by the little booklet attach to the fuse cover
Row B, F1 Diagnostic socket TRM30 - OK
Row C, F2 Diagnostic socket TRM15- OK
Or do the OBD2 module must be connected while engine not running with key in start position?
Plan take to different inspection station next week.
Any insight is kindly appreciated!

I had a real bad time getting smog completed for my GT3 after a battery change. Would not give a readiness reset for secondary cats. If you search you will find many threads about the drive cycle necessary to obtain readiness reset. Its a real pain in the donkey! I drove 300 miles and still couldn’t get a readiness reset. Fortunately the local dealer had a master tech who knew the procedure cold and the car has been fine since. Some people claim it’s easy but for 996 and 997 it can be a bear! Good luck!

Ps…yes the obd2 reader should be connected, then ignition on but no start…it will go through readiness check and will give you all green when set…if you get green it will pass smog even in Cali
