sports chrono package

it seems that all 997S has a sports mode in the center console which activates PASM, changes thruttle response, and engine response. per my reading.

but when i look at all the chrono package plus description, it always talk about activating PASM,changes thruttle response, and engine response. of course the clock.

so i am confused on what sports chrono package plus includes aside from the clock...

"S" does not have "sport" mode as standard - that comes with sport chrono. What it does have is PASM which has two settings - normal and "sport" which obviously change suspension stiffness.

Switching on Sport Chrono changes the throttle sensitivity, switches PASM to sport, switches on PSE if you have it, allows greater slip angles with PSM. Also Sport Chrono in PCM allows you to change some light and hvac settings.

In other words the clock is the smallest and least significant aspect of what Sport Chrono can do.

for 997S which has sports mode as standard, the brochure also talks about the ability to change thruttle response and etc without needing sports chrono package plus....

Trovan,

Le Chef has explained it all; no Sports Chrono = no ability to change throttle response!

It's a must.. IMO. Not because of the clock (I've never used it) but because of the reasons listed above... Good luck.

Does it make the car any quicker off the line?

Doesn't make the car any quicker off the line, but then again it's not designed to be a riced up 350Z challenger...

Where it makes a difference is in corners where PSM is loosened up. It means you can push MUCH harder and get the back moving out before PSM reins it back in. That's a great feeling.

Put it this way, if you're driving down the road with it off, and you push the sport button, you can feel the throttle open up and can feel the difference immediately.

No you can't! Until the throttle is aggressively floored, the remapping of the throttle response is inactive. This is an understandable safety measure; otherwise an inadvertent selection owould cause an undesired acceleration.

i figured out where i got the wrong information--- the owner's manual.

under the section sports mode (i think was page 75 or 71), it stated that the sports mode botton (with no mentions of sports chrono plus) will do all the things mentioned which is only for sports chrono.

it also stated that the throttle remapping will only happen after floor the throttle OR brieflt release the throttle......

all clear now.

All good reasons to have it .
Too bad they would not install it without that stupid retro-look alarm clock on the dash . I just can't stand it , so I did not get the Chrono .
And so far, I'm very happy without it .

the sport mode allows you to show lap times on the PCM in a bar graph.
