997.1 fuel pump activation?

I just changed my fuel injectors and want to check for fuel leaks before starting the engine.
Does the fuel pump activate with the key in the key on position? If so, does the pump stay on in that key on position, or does it time out if the engine doesn't start?
I have a Durametric if that's needed to have the fuel pump stay on for 10-20 seconds without starting the engine.
