Full Mod 997S Story to tell. New member here.

Hey everyone. I've been on other forums for the past 3 months because I've had issues getting onto this one. You guys are my brothers though. I've heard so many times how I shouldn't be 'ruining' my car on other threads... anyways. Water under the bridge. I'm so happy that my account worked this morning on here.

OK. I'll try to get you up to speed fast. 2006 Basalt Black Metallic 997S. 6Sp. Sport/Chrono. Two tone full leather interior (light and dark gray - sweet), came with black Carrera S 'lobster claw' wheels, and nav and all that. Since I've already proceeded with lots of stuff, I'm going to give a few pics of the car as it was when I bought it. I'm assuming you guys are like me and really like to see pics... so I'm going to do my duty here and post 'em. I just hope someone shows Mexico Blue how to. That car is gorgeous.

I've attached three pics here. I don't know how it will show up this time. The first two are of the outside of the car as stock, with the last being a shot of the two tone interior. I've had some people check that box on the options list after seeing mine. It really is nice and I thought someone else might want to see.

So then I ordered a custom set of Avus AF-MO2 wheels. 20X11 in the rear and 20X9 (I think) in the front. The rear is supposed to have a 4" lip. You all should know now that I haven't actually seen my car yet with any of these mods. I pick it up in two days (after a LONG three weeks apart while it is at the shop. More on that later.). I ordered them from Rafic at WheelsPerformance.com with Pirelli P Zero Neros. I wanted Michelin Pilot Sport Cups, but I wanted 305s more and Michelin doesn't have that yet. I'm putting the PS2s on the stock wheels for track days. I had them painted to match the car in Basalt Black Metallic whereas the stock wheels were just black. It bothered me a bit that they weren't a good paint match. Don't know why. Obsessiveness I guess. They took a good 7 weeks to get. Not the fault of anyone I don't think. Just custom wheels. I had them shipped directly to Hendrick Porsche in Charlotte. They are doing EVERYTHING to the car. I also had Rafic send me aome H&R lowering springs. Oh yeah... FYI... I have PASM. I think all S's have it. Dunno.
So then I had Todd in the parts department at Hendrick order all the following stuffs:
- EVO Motorsports Supercharger Kit. largely in part to Mexico Blue's love for his. I gotta respect a guys opinion who wisely chose such a beautiful color. This kit comes with everything. The GIAC reflash. The larger injectors and fuel pump. The cooler. Everything.
- FabSpeed Headers, Exhaust, and tips. No cats. Leaving that potential headache alone.
- Porsche Short Shifter

I really wanted to make the car look good. I thought soooo long about all that, and I kept liking different parts from different kits. I've got like.... 200 pics of body kit stuff for 997s in my "My Pictures" folder. I chose my favorite pieces. I hope I don't regret it. I've attached what these pieces look like. I'll see them on the car on Tuesday.

My 'Custom' Kit is...

- Cargraphic "Cup" front bumper. Looks much like a GT3 front. Has the vent and all that. I like it.
- Cargraphic Black wire mesh for vents in front bumper.
- Cargraphic Carbon Fiber Chin Spoiler.
- Cargraphic Urethane Chin Spoiler for a backup (issue in shipping yielded me a free spare... woo hoo!)
- Rinspeed Side Skirts
- Rinspeed Indy Rear Bumper (This is the part I can't wait to see.)
- Cargraphic GT-2 "Cup" Style Wing and Deck Lid with Ram Air. The wing has Carbon Fiber uprights.
- EVO Motorsports Carbon Fiber Mirrors
- Rinspeed Carbon Fiber Diffuser (between the exhausts).

I think that's about it. I really think the carbon chin, mirrors, wing pieces, and diffuser are going to look really cool with the Metallic Black. I hope so at least. And I'm taking the 'Carrera S' badge off the back and am trying to find somewhere to make me a custom Carbon Fiber emblem to replace it that says "3.8 S/C". I think that would be cool.

They sent me these pics of the car with the wheels on. They said that the inside of the deck lid had to be trimmed a bit for the turbine, so they just left the deck lid off since I had a new one coming in anyways. The tech that installed everything said: "It's turbo fast. Really. I didn't think it would be but it is. From 3500-5500 rpms it feels like the rear tires are wanting to break loose." That's cool. Oh, by the way. I did some 'pre-mod' tests so I could do some comparing. I ran the car on a dyno at Motor Mavericks in Johnson City, TN. It was a mid-80s day temp-wise. I think it's a Mustang Dyno. Anyways, they couldn't get a torque reading on the car but it hit 308.2 HP at the wheels. Works out about right. Then, I took it to Thunder Valley... the NHRA 1/4 mile strip in Bristol, TN and had a few runs. For accuracy, I have to note a few things: Bristol has a 3,400ft elevation handicap and the cars want to roll backwards off the line while you're waiting for the lights... so you have to rev it high but burn the clutch enough to stay still. Oh... and I'm not a pro driver. So I ran a 13.2 at 106 or something. I will take it back to the same dyno and same strip soon and report my findings. I know it's not a drag car, but I like numerical evidence to support such a crazy expense. Here are the last set of pics I got from Hendrick. They said that one of the exhaust tips came damaged, so it's missing one.

OK. Here's the last of what I have now. The white and blue car is a Cargraphic show car. It shows the front bumper and chin, as well as the rear wing that I got. The White car is a Rinspeed Indy car. I don't like their rear wing-thing, but I love the bumper. And... the side skirts are just side skirts. I don't like the ones that look like you put them on there. I think the Rinspeed car has them on it. And you can't really see it, but the Rinspeed car has the rear diffuser in there. I really think that might be cool... or it could be a total waste of money. I'll let you know. That's it! I can't wait to pick her up in two days!

Just beautiful. I love the two-tone interior. I hadn't seen that before, and I really think it sets it apart nicely. I also love those carbon mirrors. I'll be ordering them tomorrow.

As for my pics, nothing pisses me off more than reading about a great car someone has, and they don't include pics. My car comes back out of the shop tomorrow with the Cargraphics carbon fiber lip on, and I will take pics this week. Since I have no idea what to do from there, The Fanatic, The Stig, and several others have offered to post them for my technologically-illiterate self.

Anyway, I love your car, and the approach you have taken to your mods. There are plenty of great boards out there, but the people on this one make it easy to call home. Welcome. - Russ

Tommy Vercetti is infamous around these parts
Wth are you gonna be Jeff Gordon w/that thing ??
I dealt w/ RH Porsche ONE TIME, the one on East Indep Blvd, I guess its still there right ? I got a brand spanking new (at the time) 928 S4 GTS. The thing broke down three times on the way home to S Fla. They practically denied I was even there when I called for help. Dicks.

Man, I really hope I don't have that issue. You're right. We're definitely talking about the same dealership. The guys I'm dealing with there are very involved in the Carolinas PCA region, which is why I chose them. I'm in Wilmington, about 3.5 hours from there, with a few closer dealerships. But I'll be out there at the track with my service guys and techs... so if it breaks, I feel good about them hooking me up. I'm not going to be Jeff Gordon though. Just want something unique. I'm meeting with Ian Baas (23 yr old Randy Pobst co-driver: winner of 24 Hours of Daytona) at VIR soon and he's going to spend a day or two with me in my car to help me with my skills. I'm also going to a 4 day class at Panoz at Road Atlanta. I don't plan to race it, but I do want to know how to drive it correctly.

Thanks for all the props guys. I do appreciate it. Look forward to your pics, Russ... just like every other person on this list! And Jiaim, thanks again.
