Potential Porsche owner w/ question??

Hello everyone. I am new to the forum but have been reading several threads lately. I am considering a 911S (tip) as an everyday car. Can anyone give me some feadback as how the car behaves on a daily basis. One concern of mine is head room. I'm 6'3'. I test drove one last week but only for about 20 minutes. Not really enough time to absorb all the car has to offer.
Got to get used to the V6 sound, I'm used to V8's and V10's. Car WILL be driven in rain and LIGHT snow. Love the aero kit but front dam seems low, will this cause a problem. Like most on this site I am a car fanatic so extra care will be taken. Thanks in advance for the advice.

You'll find lots of info in this and other forums. The S is a great everyday car. I have manual so can't comment on the Tip. Headroom should be OK. BTW - don't get used to the V6 sound---it's not a V6. I love the looks of the various replacement front ends offered but my driveway causes my stock front end to scrap unless I'm very slow and approach almost parallel. Good luck.

Sorry about that..meant inline 6. I will try over the weekend to schedule a longer test drive. Preliminary talks with the dealer has him discounting the car 7K. This is on an '07. Not bad I thought.

Not inline either - I think the correct term is "horizontally opposed" - 3 cylinders to each side - commonly called boxer engine if I'm not mistaken.

The term you're looking for is "flat 6" or as someone said, a boxer engine. To answer your questions though, I drive my 997S every day and its a great daily driver. Aside from being comfortable, the **** eating grin I get every time I goose the throttle (I have the sport exhaust with the 'always on' mod) makes some crappy work days better.

I'm 6'1", 240 lbs and I fit with plenty of room. It has a lot more headroom than my 996 had.

If this is your first Porsche, then I implore you to try a stick, better yet get the shorter shifter.. I just cant imagine not being in total control of this: 997 'Beasty Mean Machine', cuz thats how it performs on a daily basis, you have to tame it....I know its a preference though.. best of luck, goodluck!!!

I drive mine on a daily basis; its great and extremely reliable.

Do you commute long distances or spend hours in traffic?
If so, I would recommend looking into a bigger highway cruiser (LS430 / S500 .. ). They are more comfortable and quiter than the 997 (but nothing beats driving it).

The S with a Tip is great as a daily driver, especially if you have a lot of traffic to deal with.. but it's even better as a weekend/every-other-day drive, so I'd go with a 6-speed.

I have to agree about having an alternative car to use for the commute if your budget allows, otherwise stick with the S! Personally I like to have a nice comfy/quiet ride (I prefer SUVs) to drive to work and throw your files/papers/briefcase in that you can also park virtually anywhere and be high enough to see beyond the car in front of you if you're stuck in a jam or whatever.. then, when you feel like tearing it up a little, take the S out as it's EXTREMELY enjoyable as an occasional car. I always get a grin firing it up after spending a couple of days in an SUV, so I would say it gives me MORE pleasure now than it did when it was my only car and I drove it every single day for 3 months before I got another car to keep the mileage down a bit..

I went from an S4 to the 997S and I was concerned about it's daily driveablility, too. Nothing to worry about - this thing is perfect. Even a lady friend commented last night how good the ride is.

It feels more solid than my Audi and I wouldn't have thought that possible. The sounds it makes are awesome - very mechanical, very raw, but never annoying or intrusive.

Definitely get the Bose, nav, and sport chrono. The difference between normal and sport throttle response is night and day.

This car will be with me for a LONG time.

Thanks guys for all the info. Only drive 5-20 miles to work 4 days a week so the 'S' look good. (Test drove the BMW 650i, cockpit a bit cramped but exhaust sounds good). Only one decision left....Arctic silver metallic or
seal grey metallic?

C4

If you are going to drive in the rain and little snow consider a C4 or C4s. The C2S will not be good in the light snow.

Mine is Seal Gray so I'm biased. If you drive it in winter, get some Winter Sport tires (Dunlop M3s come to mind) and you'll be fine.
