Replacing my 997 S for a C6 z06
I personally dont think a switch to a chevy is going to make you happy. if youre going to change to an american car, as one guy said, get a viper, its pretty much just as fast and it handles wayyyyy better than a z06, and this is from people who i know who have raced and tracked them both. the viper has a better interior too.
That said, i think you will realize very soon that while those cars are great in a straight line, Porsche gives it ALL to you. a fast car, that looks great, sounds great, brakes well, handles second to none and make you feel like your in your own world when driving them.

I don't know if this bothers anyone else but this is definetly a concern for me. From what I have found, Porsche does not use EDR's in their cars.

I just went from an 04 Z06 to a 06 997S... All i can say is that im happy with my decision.. At first youll feel the lack of torque and grunt but as time goes on youll know you made the right decison...
Z06 was a great fun car though.

Like I said in my first post, get what makes you happy. Yes, you can redo the interior. Yes, you can supercharge your 911. In the end, if buying the Z06 gets you stoked, then do it. I've lost so much money flipping cars on a whim, but not once have I worried myself about it. Usually the sexy new beast in the garage gets me smiling.
How many peple have actually owned both a 997 and Z06..or even have spent enough time behind the wheel to give an HONEST, UNBIASED opinion.
There is a BIG misconception that the Z06 is only fast in a straight line...
furthest from the truth. Given equal experienced drivers the 997s will never
beat a Z06 around any track. The Z06 is in another league compared to the 997s. In my opinion the 997s is just not as powerful as people lead you to believe. If you want to compare apples to apples bring a 997tt to the table. Heck a base c6 Z51 is faster than a 997s. I understand people talk about the 997s being well-balanced..an M5 is also well balanced.
As far as quality of interior materials I don't think its a comparison. But the majority of people looking to purchase these cars I believe are performance driven...hence all the bolt ons and after market mods. (Want a fabulous interior check out the SC430 with saddle or ecru colors.)
As far as the 'speed factor' loosing its luster...My '05 Viper is CRUDE, HOT, RUDE , HOT, HARSH, HOT ,VIBRATES, IS LOUD (IN STOCK FORM) AND CRAMPED IN THE COCKPIT(ALTHOUGH INCREDIBLE SEATS) and everytime I fire it up and it spits and gurgles the exhaust..one smash of the throttle keeps you wanting more. Maybe I am still young and immature but I don't think I will ever get bored of the thrill of speed.

As for the interior, I said it once, I'll say it again. For $75K, you should get a much nicer interior. Really take a look at the inside of a Vette - it's so disappointing to me. When I first saw the C6, I was driving an S2000. While the S2000 isn't super fast, it is sure a hell of a lot nicer inside (and better built) than a C6. I just wish Chevy/GM would take note and put better materials in there. Maybe they need to poach an interior specialist from Audi or something...
I agree whole heartedly, my Viper is totally a weekend toy. I speek to other Viper owners and they tell me they drive it daily and I say no way...can't be done. But i still want crude for the weekend..my 545i sport is more than polished and reserved for a daily driver.

If we all drove what has the fastest spec sheet, we'd all be driving Z06s since they are a performance king in most objective categories.
But, we don't drive spec sheets. We drive cars. They are organic machines and each different one delivers its own experience. Steering feel, feel through the chassis, harshness, engine responsiveness, sound, fit and finish, materials, etc etc all come into play. Let's call it 'the entire ownership experience'.
Is the 'entire ownership experience' better in the Z06? Absolutely not, unless you prioritize all out performance and comparatively give little thought to other categories.

I like them both and I agree with most of what has been said. If you are looking for all out performance there is no question the ZO6 is a world class supercar without any consideration of price. When you factor in the price its just that much better. Yeah its definetly built with lesser quality materials and you notice it right away but its still very functional and it will stand up over time. Obviously not as well as a Porsche but a well cared for Vette will be a good car for a lot of years. Personally I still think the ZO6 has a very good ride for the level of grip it offers and its relatively quiet even with the runflats. Some PS2's would IMO would make it even more livable and I would see zero problems using one as a daily driver. My biggest complaints are after the sale care in the Chevrolet dealer network. Personally I am very well connected with the locals and it stills makes me blink. And they do break, not sure how much more than a 997S but I am sure its more.
The 997S is not nearly as fast but is still quicker than most anything out there and the car shines as a package. Great looks, great sound, great feel, great feedback, great performance, great build etc... While it may not kill everything it sees it is nearly faultless. Personally I don't even think the performance of the ZO6 is enough to make the 997S a compromise. Strong dealer network, respect at least which will be hard to come by at the chevy store and lastly, there is absolutely no denying the status of a 911. I know a lot of you could care less, or at least say you care less, but the car is without a doubt the coolest VIP pass most of us will come across.
