Replacing my 997 S for a C6 z06

The 997S is not nearly as fast but is still quicker than most anything out there and the car shines as a package. Great looks, great sound, great feel, great feedback, great performance, great build etc... While it may not kill everything it sees it is nearly faultless. Personally I don't even think the performance of the ZO6 is enough to make the 997S a compromise. Strong dealer network, respect at least which will be hard to come by at the chevy store and lastly, there is absolutely no denying the status of a 911. I know a lot of you could care less, or at least say you care less, but the car is without a doubt the coolest VIP pass most of us will come across.
You said that pretty much perfectly. z06-very fast, horrible build quality. 911, super fast, handles better, brakes better, better feel steering and balance, amazing quality throughout, sexy looks and sound, and matched by NO OTHER CAR! Originally Posted by 05997S

When you factor in the price its just that much better. Yeah its definetly built with lesser quality materials and you notice it right away but its still very functional and it will stand up over time. Obviously not as well as a Porsche but a well cared for Vette will be a good car for a lot of years. Personally I still think the ZO6 has a very good ride for the level of grip it offers and its relatively quiet even with the runflats. Some PS2's would IMO would make it even more livable and I would see zero problems using one as a daily driver. My biggest complaints are after the sale care in the Chevrolet dealer network. Personally I am very well connected with the locals and it stills makes me blink. And they do break, not sure how much more than a 997S but I am sure its more. The 997S is not nearly as fast but is still quicker than most anything out there and the car shines as a package. I personally do not like the looks of the z06 AT ALL! the Carrera is sexy while the z06 tries to hard to look good any fail miserably to me. The Carrera is a stunning car to look at and performs equally as well. sure the z06 is going to be faster at a track, because its got much more hp and tq and is lighter, but compare apples to apples, and compare a 997TT or a 997GT3 to the z06at the track, and it gets killed by the GT3 and turbo.
in the end, keep your car, or you will def be regretting it!

thank you for making my point :-) a shut of the door is THE ultimate built quality test... and unfortunately no one beats porsche/bmw/mercedes in that test... true, the Z06 has a lot going for it, but as mentioned by many others, you have to look at the overall experience... i'll give you an example: you're in bumper to bumper traffic, and it is raining cats and dogs... where would you rather be? you had a few drinks to many, it's late, and you have to drive back home... where would you rather be? (besides in bed with a hotty)... I think no other sports car beats the feel of the ful leather interior of the 997... close you eyes and try to remember the feel of porsche's manual short-shifter, and now switch to the truck-like feel of the Z06's gear box... i think the 997S beats the Z06 as a daily sports car driver any day of the week, and twice on sunday... I've driven and/or owned a mustang GT, early Viper, C6, Z3M, several Porsches, F355, 360 modena, etc... even a DB9... I think the 997S is so perfect that it is bordering on boring to me lately, that's why I ordered a GT3, and might switch to an RS if my dealer gets an allocation... the TT would be too dull... the only thing which would make me sell my 997 C2S Cab. is a GT3 RS, and F430, or the upcoming AM DBS... anything else and I'd be trading DOWN, not up... keep your 997S, save up, and trade UP :-) (no hard feelings Z06 fans)Originally Posted by amerlemans
I agree 100%. Another very basic test to see the build quality between the two cars is to simply open and close the doors of both cars. It will be quite evident which one is put together better.

I agree! The 997 is perfection! If def would be a step down to buy a vette, im sorry to all you guys who like them, but its TRUE! nothing can really compare to what Porsche gives you.Originally Posted by Marwan

I have to say this. z06s cost 70K, that IMO, is WAY overpriced for what it is. To get me to even sit in the car, YOU WOULD NEED TO PAY ME $70K, AND THATS ONLY TO SIT IN IT! TO DRIVE IT ONCE WOULD BE ANOTHER $70K.
let the games begin..
For 100 grand you better get better quality. What the heck are you paying for. 355 horses...WAY too many cars can beat that number. and don't they build close to 25-30 thousand 911's per year..way too many to make it exclusive.
P.S. as far as the ultimate VIP pass...sorry fellas it is still the VIPER...I still get grown men, women and children flipping up their cell phones to snap a picture when I'm at a light or in a parking lot.
P.S.S. Might seem like i am dissin the 911...not the case at all. Just like to call it as I see it.

It's safe to say that anyone owning a 997 has the means to purchase a Viper. Nice looking car by the way. But for whatever reason they chose not to. If being concerned about "grown women" taking your picture as you drive by floats your boat, than by all means. In my opinion when I see a guy rolling around in a Viper, unless he's old, I think "small *****." The "grown women" that a Viper probably attracts are probably not the type I'd be too interested in anyway, a full set of teeth is a must.
"But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong."

I priced a regular 997 (no S) w/ minimal options and a $7K discount that put me at $69K. Take that plus $10,000 for an EVO SC bolt on and you are at a little less than $80K. Then you'll have a brand new Porsche 911 with 470 ponies. At 470 HP you are right near Z06 performance numbers but the big kicker is you have a car with a HELLUVA lot better build quality, interior, etc than a Corvette. Sounds pretty damn good to me!!!!
ABSOLUTELY! Well put Scott! 911s are still very exclusive, not as much as they used to be but still very exclusive. So what it has 355 hp, how many 355 hp cars do u know that run mid 12's are 112-114 BONE STOCK! I cant think of ANY! HP is just a number, its how you put it to the ground! if you ever saw the top gear with the 997S, the aston martin vantage v8, and the m6, the Carrera S outperformed both by a large margin on a course even though it has 25 hp less than the aston, and 145 less than the m6. m6 runs mid 12s at 116-118 with 500 hp and the carrera s runs the same mid 12s at 112-114. You give the 997S 145 more hp and it crushes even a new z06. evoms does a supercharger kit that puts a 997S to 470 hp, thats 115 more hp and it runs mid 11s(11.5@over 125 mph on 19s). Im not trying to put your viper down, put those numbers will crush a viper as well. i call them as i see them, and thats what 10K as scott said will get you on a 997S, and the 997 base runs about the same times as well! so take your pick, but a SC on either yields you 470 hp crank, and mid to high 11s at 123-126 mph!
I own a Z06 and a Porsche so I've driven both quite a bit. If I had to get rid of one right now, the Vette would be gone without a question. I had an '01 TT last year that I sold. The second it drove out of my driveway, I knew that I had screwed up and spent the next 3 months finding another one that I could buy. It is an old saying but it is very true:
Porsche, there is no substitute.

Did not say that was a 'concern' of mine, just a response to a previous thread about VIP status. Please read threads more carefully.Originally Posted by Very Risky

I would re-read the post more carefully, but it's since been edited. There's always next time.
$3-$4k in mods and you will compete with Enzos. Hard to argue with that.
First of all, thank you all for your comment.Despite my passion for Porsche i personally believe that the Z06 will be the car that will put a BIGGER smile to my face. Here in Greece including taxes and customs the Carrera S has a base price of 120.000 Euro(155.000 $) and mine costed 134.000 Euro(173.000 $) while the Vette cost 123.000 Euro (158.000 $),so the amount of money is an issue here....I will be in for a long wait until Aprill 2007 when it arrives here.Once again thanks for all comments and support.

Here's hoping it makes you happy and things work out well for you.
Something tells me, however, that we will see you back on here in less than one year after you buy it........talking about what a mistake you made and how you are in the market for a 998.
If you are used to German engineering and like that feel in a vehicle, you will not get it in a Vette. I know FIRST HAND. Like others on here have said...Porsche, there is no substitute.
Good luck man
