Pulled the trigger today...

After work today, I went to the dealership and placed my order for an ’08 C4S with a “Septemberish” delivery date. This is a very long way from my first VW bug in ’83… After an 18 year marriage that ended four years ago, A beautiful 21 year old daughter, 3 bouts with cancer, and all the stuff in between… I finally managed to order the dream. (sounds a bit like a cheesy awards ceremony)

Carrera White C4S
Sand Beige Full Leather
Rear Window Wiper
Floor Mats Interior Color
Porsche Sport Exhaust System
Navigation Module
BOSE High End
(small discount off MSRP)

The GM went to a meeting yesterday in LA with z germans; he told me that the US gets only 1800 ’08 997’s allocated for the year as opposed to the 3200 or so the country got last year. This includes C2, C2S, C4, C4S, Targa, Conv., Turbo, GT3… I asked him why this was of course, and he explained that in Dubai for example, they can sell the same car for a much higher MSRP. As in any business, profit is key, but it was surprising for me to hear that… I don’t know any more than this, I am only stating what he said to me. Have any of you heard this? He told me after I paid the deposit and signed the vehicle buyers order, so I don’t think he had any motive to tell a story that huge that might not be true…

Anyway, I am very excited and have no choice but to wait patiently. Pic’s on arrival!

Half of those a year I swear are in Los Angeles...I am shocked on how many 997's I see here, absolutley no exclusivity here in LA.

MY S2000 gets more looks than 997's on the westside...such a shame.

I think Dubai might have a lower MSRP than the states .. but with the low dollar and higher shipping expenditures .. it costs the US more to get them.

It also may have to do witht he fact that the face lift is due out in 09. The dealers don't want to be stuck doing heavy discounts on current stock. If the face lifted is an 09 model than 08 will be a short run. IMO

Congrats on surviving everything you have while keeping your chin up the entire time. You have made a very well thought out move by ordering such a nicely optioned car.

If what your dealer is telling you, and that number is accurate for the full model year (not a partial model year), the US dealers must be up in arms, as there is no way they can make the money they have in the past to support their large expenditures of the new larger buildings, etc. and simply the cost of general overhead to do business as usual, if they will only get a little overhalf the cars they did last year. They can't sell enough t-shists, oil changes, etc. to make up for it

It may be a true statement, but I tend to wonder if there is more or less to the story??

Perhaps this is the reason for shorter service intervals, to help up dealer revenue in face of decreased supply!

Nicely done. Enjoy it. Sometimes a ride through the woods with your window down is one of the finest pleasures to be had. There are some great roads in the Northwest and now you will have the proper tool to fully enjoy them.
