PSE exhaust diametere size
PSE exhaust diametere size
I am getting ready to perform the PSE mod on the stock muffler. I have noticed several people are using 2 , 2.25 inch pipes to connect to the outlet. I know the stock outlet is 2 inches, and looking from all the picture it looks like the second oultet pipe (one with the vaccum valve) is smaller in diameter then the primary outlet. can some body with pse please measure the pipe Diametere and let me know, It looks like 1 1/2 inches to me.??
thanks in advance

How are you modifying the stock mufflers?
Keep in mind that the stock muffler outlet pipe is designed to fit into the center of the bumper cutout .
The dual S tips are bolted to the pipe in the middle and then split in two.
The PSE tips are bolted to only the larger pipe .
The smaller pipe is "free floating "inside the tips to allow for up/down adjusting .If you intend to bolt the PSE tips to your stock muffler outlet pipe, they may not fit into the bumper cutout unless you have the pipes bent a little.

i have the pse and noticed that one side is 'lower' than the other or looks slightly 'crooked' when looking at the relative spaces between the bumper cut outs. How easy is it to adjust yourself?

You can even make them stick out a little further if you want.

I just want to know the diametere of the smaller pipe, or is it smaller then the main exhaust pipe, it sure looks like from the pics

The larger pipe is flaired out to exactly 2 inches OD at the tip ( the actual pipe is a little smaller )
The smaller PSE bypass pipe is 1 7/16 inches OD.
Hope this helps .
thanks jcs
thats what i was looking for, 1 7/16 is close to 1 1/2 inch (that i can buy off the shelf ) just like I suspected from the pictures.

You may want to consider using a larger pipe .Perhaps 1 3/4" or even 2".
Someone else did what you are about to do and did not get quite the same agressive exhaust sound as the PSE's.
I suspect the PSE's have some of the muffler sound packing reduced in the vicinity of the bypass pipe exit to allow more exhaust flow into the pipe ?
I have a request:
When you remove your mufflers, could you weigh them ?
I am just curious how the weight compares to some of the aftermarket claims.
Thanks.
Thanks.

i did this mod, similar to the 996 guys and didnt get much more sound.
someone said that the 997 pse mod is different so you may want to find this out before going through with it, i think it is jrgordonsenior that posted pics of this mod

I posted on this before. Unfortunately, I don't have a picture when I did the internal mods. I used a plasma cutter and cut a three sides of a square. Then I peeled back the fourth side. The cut was made on the side where the bracket mounts the muffler to the car. I cut along the two vertical creases. They are located exactly where the chamber separations would be. When you get it opened, you will see that the two chamber walls has a 2.25" hole. You need to weld a TUBE to connect the two chamber walls together. This now mimics the 996 PSE style. No one has posted what the new 997 PSE internals look like. I used 1.75" pipe for the outside bend. Sounds great and not as loud as PSE. But, way better than stock. I wonder if I gained a couple of horses from this. Since, it replicated a more straight thru design.

I finally got time to take the car to the shop for the PSE mod. I am very satisfied with the result. It does not change the sound alot when idling but from 2000 rpm it is noticable and so far I am happy. I used a 51mm tube for the connection.
