Clear plastic guard
Clear plastic guard
Do you guys keep the clear plastic guards in front of the rear wheels or remove. In certain lights, you can see the outline of the plastic and it's not attractive. I realize it's to protect the lower fender.
THanks.

hi there!
we got ours through car nutz, in bellevue by park place. we did both our 996 and boxster on the fenders, hood, and door edges. they do a great job and you can hardly tell it's on. maybe each place does it a bit differently and/or uses a bit diff. product. we have the 3M/Scotchguard. Check out Car Nutz!

I kept mine as-is. They look better than rock chip. Just my two cents, but cars have all kinds of things on them that don't look so great, but there has to be some degree of practicality.
Maybe I wasn't being clear. This is not a plastic film installed by the dealer, this came from the factory. It's a triangular plastic film right in front of the rear wheels that goes down to the side skirt. Doesn't every 997 come from the factory like this? And, regardless of ANY plastic film, in the right light and angle you can see it. Just wondering if anyone has taken this off without any issues.
I took mine off .. the area around it was getting thrashed by rocks. I am just going to end up repainting the car in a couple months because of the chips (and then put a proper clear cover).

You were being clear. Its there for a reason. As mishref said, if you take it off, that area will get trashed.
A shop can replace it with a better looking piece, but of course you will still see it.

i think factory uses the cheaper 3m material. i replaced with 3m aerospace and they did better coverage and only one long seam exposed.
this topic has been covered before a few times on the boards.
i posted a pic of the exposed seams on my new gaurd.
