performance exhaust systems

Just bought a 2006 Carrera. Aftermarket companies such as Fabspeed claim more horsepower/performance from their systems. Do they really deliver? JDunn

This is a subject that has been beaten to death.."this dog don't want to hunt". I suggest a search for Fabspeed, AWE and such and you will find plenty of reading.

RUF (arguably one of the most reputable Porsche tuners in the world ) recently did extensive testing of various exhaust systems ( headers, mufflers etc.) on 997's with N.A. engines

Their tests indicated that it was " virually impossible " to measure any performance gains over the factory installed equipment .

Draw your own conclusions.

Change your mufflers if you want a different sound, not for any
"misleading "performance claims
( ever since Bill Clinton, we don't "lie" anymore )

Also, aftermarket stuff diminishes the cars resale value, so save the factory mufflers , just in case you ever intend to sell it .

Just looking at the factory pieces in comparison to the aftermarket equipment would lead you to believe there is no way the aftermarket stuff would not make power.

I'd like to see that though.

Well, ultimately it comes down to what you believe.

Either the Porsche ( and RUF ) Engineers know more about engine performance , or some aftermarket muffler peddler .

Maybe you and your posse of mad tuning engineers can explain why I get baseline dyno, remove factory pipes, install aftermarket pipes and then there is a gain?

Maybe RUF would like you to think you need a supercharge, did that ever cross your mind?

I believe that under the perfect conditions you might be able to measue a difference on a dyno, but never feel the difference.
I love the sound of my stock exhaust, especially with the top down.

I felt it immediately. In fact I didn't know what the actual gain was when I picked it up.

Not sure what you guys are thinking. I switched out a system on an M3 and in that car I could not feel a difference.

I have Fabspeed mufflers and they sound great and that is why I bought them. They will not make any more power that your butt will feel.

JCS, I'd love to read the Ruf test's as I really respect that company a lot...where did you read this? Thanks!

Ruf better change their catalog then, as they are claiming 5hp for the mufflers, 15hp for the cats along with a new DME.

Here is the link of the catalog:

My M3 bone stock did 278rwhp with a OEM exhaust, with a Supersprint full setup including 100cpi cats it did 302rwhp, not to mention and additional 15 ft/lbs of tq at 800 lower rpm. I definitely felt it...like I did on my 997S. The car above 4k rpm feels much better.
