Fabspeed Bypass Pipes installed
NICE. Installed some Fabspeed muffler bypass pipes last night.
They sound tremendous - definitely aggressive - hard to believe how heavy the stock mufflers are. Some pics and a link to the video below.

If you get a chance, could you weigh one of the mufflers?
I would be very interested how much they actually weigh .
thanks .
Fabspeed pipes
I've ordered several items from Fabspeed over the years.
these are super high quality, stainless steel, bent to the exact specs. I could see this install being a bit tricky if the bends are wrong, as it would be hard to line up the exhaust tips in the opening.
These come as shown with nice clamps. Maybe not worth three hundo, but it came in one day, was ready to install and went on like a charm.
At what price convenience?

Alright, so you have to help me since I am all thumbs.
I jacked the car up to inspect the mufflers to see if i could do this myself. I dont have airtools either. Anyways I jacked her up at the jack point to get my jackstand under(which I could not figure where to put it since i dont want to break anything-so please explain that too.) but the car was on the driver front wheel only which freaked me out because I thought that the car would be completely in the air if i went to the other side or that I might be bending the frame with the torsion I was creating. So i lowered her abit and just used the jack to put the tips on instead...
Soorry for being tech. un-savvy but can you help out a little to explain the install. The pics help out tons too.
By the way the car sounds simply amazing. I was concerned about maybe how loud this would be since I have a friend that has it on a 996 so I went Fabspeed mufflers instead, but hearing your car makes me feel that the sound is just perfect.

Install
The install is very easy, especially with air tools - you only need two sockets - 13 mm and 15 mm to get the job done. 3 nuts on each muffler plus the two on the exhaust clamp, and the muffler basically falls out.
The bypass pipes are easy as pie - one clamp. Alignment is the trickiest part.
took me 45 minutes to remove old and install new - much easier than the muffler work I've done on the Boxster.
I'm not going to get into jacking up the 997, as if you don't know how, you shouldn't be under the car alone - find a trusted buddy to help you out - will be much more fun. There are many sources available online with instructions for jacking the 997

When I was looking for new exhausts for my last 997 a few months ago I tried bypass pipes and here is what I found:
- I bought a pair of pipes from Pep Boys identical in size/shape to the extremely overpriced Fabspeed pipes and troed them on the car.
- Paid about $20 or so for ugly steel pipes but they answered the sound question - they're way too loud to live with. They drone tremendously and are very annoying at all speeds if you drive for more than about 5 minutes.
- They sound cool in videos but videos don't even come close to capturing the true sound of anything - specially exhausts. All exhausts I listened to in videos sounded great - none sounded any good in real life excpet PSE.
- I couldn't hear AWE or Europipe live on a non-turbo because there are n't any around where I live and neither company had anything to listen to even if I came to their HQ (or US HQ).
- I ended-up with PSE and wondered why I ever even considered anything else - PSE sounds like Porsche not a mustang (or in the case of any bypass pipes - a 1971 Dodge Challenger with blown-out short exhaust - I know mine sounded crappy :-)
If anyone wants to buy the Pep Boys pipes off me I'll sell them to you for cost + S&H (nominal fee) and you can try them yourself - all that I ask is that you sell them to the next guy to tryu out at cost as well.
BTW, if you like the sound of these bypass pipes then the Pep Boys pipes probably won't suite your needs since they're just plain zinc coated steel. Plenty of sjops or pipe vendors online will sell you the same pipe as Fabspeeds in polished SS for around $40-$50 each. $300 is gauging especially since ther eis zero engineerin in a bent piece of pipe.
