V1 hardwire on car without auto dimming mirrors

So I followed the directions on renntech on hardwiring a V1 and followed the sub instructions for a 997 without auto dim mirrors (4-pin connector to map/center lights). Supposedly this is suppose to provide switched power to the V1 from the time you unlock the car to the time you lock it and the lights dim. Mine does not do this though. The V1 is not getting power unless the center light is permanently turned on. Any other thoughts on how to hardwire this (would prefer not running wire through headliner and A pillar to fusebox). Any DIY instuctions on wiring it to the sunroof?

I haven't done this install yet but when I do I am going to try and tap into the sunroof wires. I think there are instructions in the manual on how to access the sunroof motor incase it gets stuck open. I could be wrong though...

Care to scan the instructions on how to open the roof panel with the switches and which wire is hot and ground...

My buddy hardwired my V1 into my 997 with the line going right into the fusebox and ran the line discreetly by pushing it into the molding around the windshield - mounted the V1 to the left of the rear view mirror using the big suction cup mounts. Took all of about 15 minutes and came out great. The V1 powers up/down automatically when the key is in/out of the ignition- no need to keep turning the V1 on/off on the unit. Due to the hidden wiring and the mounting location, all you have to do is flip down the visor to hide it should you get pulled over by your friendly neighborhood police officer so they won't see it. Unfortunately I can vouch that it works...

Where in the fuse box do you tap the wire into? Any links to pics or DIY?

Just use a voltage sensor (the type that lights up when +12 is present) and probe for a switched +12v line either in the fuse compartment or the overhead console. I suspect the sunroof switch might be a good location since it only works (I think) when the ignition is on.

I wish I could be more help but I don't have a schematic. I hardwired mine to the the auto sensing rear view mirror using the DIY on Rennlist.com.

Good Luck . . . .

best $70 I could have spent

I went to a high end car stereo place on Friday .. one hour of labor and the hardwiring with hidden remote was done. Perfect. No fuss, no muss, and a lot faster than if I had done it myself.

I ended up hardwiring mine earlier last week to the fuse box. All wires hidden, spent less than an hour doing it, spent a total of $2.50.

What kind of hidden remote? Can you post a photo of the detector/display?
