Heffner Peformance Ford Gt 266.9 Standing mile
What's the working title for the new TV show?
This was posted today by Seth Rosen who ran the Exotics Rally where there has been so much question about the timing equipment.

To all Participants, Spectators, Media & Fellow Enthusiasts,
On Sunday, April 25, 2010, Exotics Rally hosted a Runway Event at the Dade Collier Training & Transitional Airport in Ochopee, Florida. To measure this competition we used a new-unique timing system built by 2 engineers that have extensive knowledge of electronics, circuitry, mathematics and more. They have worked for The Military, US Government, Apple, Disney and many more projects past, present, and future. The system was built to perform better than the mainstream systems normally used when measuring a 1 mile speed competition. It was tested and calibrated and found to be 100% accurate within 100th of a second when it was built.
On Sunday, April 25, 2010, Myself and one of the tech's measured the mile accurately using a measuring wheel and laid out the trap sensors perfectly. We performed tests to insure it's accuracy with my car and compared it with a vBox and it was 100% accurate at 9am. At approximately 9:30am Jason Heffner and Ray Hofman approached me with a concerning issue. The lane for the 1 mile was directly set over the markings that were painted on the runway. They explained that they had been testing on the runway a few days prior and that it caused the car to become very unstable and they feared it could cause an accident. At this time I instructed my tech to move the lane over approximately 20 feet to avoid being on the markings. I began to help move the trap sensors and then was called away and went to the front of the airport to handle registration issues. When I returned, the tech had said it was completely ready to run.
Cars began running the mile and when times were announced many people were disheartened with the results claiming there was no way possible and the 'buzz' was that the system was off by approximately 9 mph. We continued to run until 12:45pm and then stopped for a lunch break. While everyone went to lunch I became aware that the tech did NOT re-measure the actual mile and simply walked the sensor traps across the runway laterally. This should have been handled differently and therefore the timing was indeed inaccurate. We went and re-measured and obtained the proper distance and the determined the exact calculation of the error. Thankfully the system is designed so that the tech was able to add these calculations to the software and re-adjust all the previous runs to read the correct times.
Towards the end of lunch I came forward and made the announcements regarding the issue and handed out time slips. Several people concurred that the timing was now accurate according to their vBox's, speedometers and gps devices.
As of Tuesday, April 27, 2010 there had been much talk on the Internet, in chat rooms, on the phone, and in the media questioning the validity of the World Record Run, by Ray Hofman which resulted in a reading of 266.938 mph. There was also speculation that now the system was reading higher mph results as well. In reviewing the data file from all the runs of the day it is my finding that there may have been some inconsistencies that some would find questionable.
Therefore, in order to verify these results I personally emailed both parties on April 30, 2010. In sum and substance I asked Jason Heffner & Ray Hofman to share their results with me exclusively. I offered a non-disclosure waiver, stating that I will not release or share any data included within the results that they claim they are in possession of with any other 3rd party.
To my dismay I received an email from Jason Heffner stating that the timing system was inaccurate. He also declined to share their data with me. With all these variables I cannot firmly state that the run was without question 100% accurate without the additional results. However this does not discredit the timing systems reading of 266.938 mph, it merely does not verify it with their results. You may draw your own conclusions as to whether the timing system was accurate or not.
For the remainder of the day it is my tech's conclusion that the timing system was working properly when it was not being blocked by spectators which happened several times. Please see the following statement made by my tech's.
"From everything I have seen, Heffner's run was completely accurate. If he recorded a near-exact time on two other independent recording devices, I would be inclined to assume that all things are indeed equal, and hence the times are accurate. Please obtain these records to completely eradicate any margin of error and then you will have not 1, not 2, but 3 verifications."
In closing I would like to add that I am sincerely sorry that this dispute has taken place regarding the accuracy of the timing system and the validity of this specific run. It is my hopes that this would have been resolved prior to the posting of this letter. I thank each and every participant, sponsor, and co-worker for your support and efforts. I pride myself on hosting value packed and exciting events, but this particular excitement I could have done without. Upon return of my support vehicle to NY which has the timing system, we will be renting an airfield in our local area to test the system and will present those results in the coming weeks.
Yours truly,
Seth Rose, Pres.

Thank you Seth for stepping up and admitting that not only was the timing runs inaccurate, but that Heffner wouldn't share data with you for verification of their run. We already knew why and now everyone else does too. Mistakes happen, but admitting them separates the men from the boys.

The Maxton, Mojave and Loring events all have fairly strict safety requirements. I am not 100% certain but I think at Maxton you have to stay under a certain speed for your first event even if your car meets the requirements for higher speeds. I guess they don't want people coming out there for their first time and spinning every run trying to go all out...
Gentlemen,
I don't have any ax to grind and making some wild claim that will be shown false at the Texas Mile would be counterproductive.
I am not a gambling man but if somebody wanted to bet me $1000 that the Hofman GT wont improve 1/10 second over a speed I have already seen it run, I'd have to take you up on that. In my opinion, the only way it won't run in the 270s is if it breaks or the event is canceled due to weather.
Ray's yellow GT will bust 270 at that event. If I'm wrong you can call me a fool, I'll still be here.

I should have taken chip up on the bet.
Performance Power is in Goliad but, unless someone breaks 252, there may be no reason to risk the car on a track that is proving to be lacking in enough space to slow down from record speeds.

Results?
You really don't know what you are talking about.
Hey....we still hold the officially timed record.
We showed up in texas to contest it and the other guys who said "we'll see what happens in texas" were not there.
Nobody went faster than 252.9 which is the current officially timed record.

You went 252.9 in texas?? I dont know who is who but the 266.9 FGT that was in texas this weekend on a STOCK MOTOR didnt do so well from what i heard.. From my personal experience i would say records must be set in Maxton or Texas.. These Miami Mile Charades are not held at the same level of standard IMO..

Nothing.. No datalogs, no GPS, No vbox.. Nothing to show it was even remotely close to 266.. Even 260,264, 260 something on a datalog would end the questions..
LOL...some people credit others for words they did not say.
Texas can no longer be considered the "standard" and a new venue will have to be found for future record runs after the events of this weekend.
It doesn't have to be miami and can be anywhere that is capable of supporting the speeds being reached as long as it is sanctioned and timed by capable equipment manned by a certified and capable operator.
The "266mph ford GT" guys were not there to contest thier record claim even after saying many times "We'll see what happens in texas".
We showed up and they did not but it is possible that they were working with thier new Matech GT and consider it more important than texas at this time because it probably is more important.
Thier car did not evaporate or turn into a pumpkin so it will show up again to contest the record on another date and we welcome the chance to run with them.
We did a 252.9 on tag heuer equipment by a tag/heuer certified technician in miami last year during top gun run and the video (which shows gps speed) was recorded on a AIM evo4 system with smarty cam the speed displayed is in agreement to the measured speed.
Watch the video and you can see the gps data.
Until this speed is bested on proper equipment, then it stands.
After seeing underground racing and SW's supra have troubles as well as a shakedown run with a hose problem, we felt it not worth risking the car which arrived not ready to run on a venue that is proving too short to safely contest the record.
The events on saturday also prompted us to build a cage, shop for H.A.N.S device, and put up a window net to augment our other safety equipment that already includes a full halon system.
As it is, we invited others into the camp and supported them in thier record bids and.....we still have a car that is capable of pushing the record further that will be far safer when it is run in future events.
It was a good event and we're satisfied with how things played out.....except for underground racing losing a very nice car.

A broken clock is right 2x a day too.. I dont care if the equipment was made my Tag, Rolex, Panerai, Big Ben, or Jesus.. The MIAMI venues were a joke and everyone knew it.. everyone posted that speeds were off except the guys looking to run 20mph faster than their car was.. if your 252 stands then might as well keep the 266 as well.. why is yours better than theirs?? Both we run in Crooked Miami..
Texas is always on point and so is Maxton.. Along with Bonneville of course.. If your record stands we might as well just use Vbox for records then and test it out on US27 right?? Why does it even need to be at an event if we are going to just use secondary timing to confirm the primary system??
Mike

With the exception of altitude (4800 ft. corrected?) , the ambient (103deg. in Sept) and the 'No Burnout' rule...
Mojave is a great venue that is by far the safest place to run.
14,000 ft. immaculate runway giving 2 miles of shutdown means no chutes needed.
March 2011 should see much cooler temps and higher mph's.
One twin turbo'd GT40 got TWENTY runs over two days , another blown GT got over a dozen runs in.
Something for all the Maxton ,Texas and Florida big boys to consider...
