I have had a thing for them ever since the first time I met Charlie and took a ride in EL MULE. Ever since then I have wanted a 1st gen camaro drop top with a t56 6 speed and a twin turbo SB2.2 small block.

You can actually build a 100% new 69 camaro these days, everything including the main body structure is available as a re-po part. It's not cheap but one heck of a way to build a very clean car. Hate to say it but buying a Gallardo would be cheaper ... though slower and depending on the crowd a well built 1st gen will get more looks.

btw, the 1st Camaro with the red/metallic black tucking the 19/20's.. yeah that one makes me smile.

I was SO close to buying Fuel when it was on Ebay a few months ago. I've been lusting after a PT 69 for years now. It seems like there's so many builders nowadays. How to know who does good work? What is the limit of streetable power in these cars?

You have to get to know the builders on a very personal level. I have worked with and considered many of the top builders personal friends for many years. Prodigy (builder of FUEL) are top notch, as is ATS, Rad Rides, and quite a few others. It really all depends on what you expect of the car and it's performance. I was one of the leading factors in Tyler of ATS NOT doing a TT on his camaro. After going for a ride with me in a 1300rwhp Viper he came to realize 800 N/A would be plenty.

You'll notice Charlie buys ALL of Mark's cars, MULE, Malitude, etc. There is a reason for that.

If you're seriously in the market feel free to send me a PM. I will help you get in touch with the right people to find the car YOU want. HP limit is entirely dependant on the rear suspension setup. A DSE 3 or 4 link will plant 1k rwhp on drag radials as well as anything out there. But it takes some work, and a driver that really understands what they are getting into to safely handle it. I've proven time and time again 1200rwhp IS streetable, IF the car is setup properly and the driver knows what to do.

FUEL was a hell of a deal, that car had some crazy $$ and hours put into it for what he was asking.

I might be bending todays definition of a pro-touring car with this one, but the heart of pro-touring has always been take an old car and make it accelerate, brake and corner like a modern day sports car. I would say Bob Owens 69 Camaro fits that definition wouldn't you? The only camaro you will ever see me posting.......

PS: I will be adding oh so much more to this topic later today, but its sleepy time for me, well atleast two hours of it.

Viscous- While I love fuel I've got to say I think the Mule is the ultimate 69. Mark nailed it when he built that car! Funny you mention the brand new 69's I was just reading about them 2 weeks ago, would love to build one. Althought I think my first PT car will be an early shoebox Nova built by Rad Rides.....Now I just need to win that damn Lotto!!!!

I don't think anyone would ever question that El Mule is the king of PT, heck that car basically started the whole trend. And it's an absolute monster on the street or track.

I'm so torn as to what I would really want to build. Part of me wants a mule clone, nasty twin turbo SB, monster brakes, 18x13's all around, T56, and wild suspension. But then I see a 1st gen vert on 20/22's all bagged up and just think damn, that would be awesome to pimp up pch.

I just need both But turn the 'vert' into a roadster, shave off everything that has to do with the soft top, make it super clean. Who needs a top in SoCal anyway. 4 bucket seats, 1000hp, 6 speed, 20x10 and 22x13's, it would make the drive to vegas so much more fun.

I have some more shots of the yellow one in the last pic, it's absolutely insane. The body work is nuts, everything has been molded into the sheetmetal, tucket, trimmed, etc.

Markus- Bobs car is wild, he actually posts over on pro-touring.com from time to time. Not exactly a street car but I bet it hauls *** around a racetrack.

Yeah that last 69 is bad ***! The stance is perfect, it just looks so mean. I like the 2 headlight grill so much better then the RS.

Do you have any more pics of the 2 tone Nova?

I like the 2 light look as well. Will see if I have more pics of the Nova.

While this isn't my favorite car ever, you have to give Bob credit for taking it to the next level. Over $100k in custom carbon fiber work on this thing.

He actually raced it a bit as well but ended up spinning a main bearing at a standing mile event. Car sold for what was considered a steal for $535k
