Largest rubber for a 996 GT3?

What is the largest set of rubber you have or can fit on a 996 GT3 with stock offset and sized rims?
Currently have:
Front: 18x8.5" ET 40 w/Michelin PS2: 235x40x18
Rear: 18x11 ET 63 w/Michelin PS2: 295x30x18
Car has been:
Lowered @1/2 in, both front and rear with Moton Club Sport and adj links
Currently running BBS Motorsports wheels with OEM size and offset.
I know some have run the 315x30x18 w/o any fitment issues however, was this at stock height? Will the fronts clear 245x40x18?
TIA.

I have a 99 996 with JICs and my front rims are 8 ET50. The car is lower than stock. I
just put 245 40 18s on and don't have any fitment issues.

Don't you mean 245/35/18 they are the size that matches up diameter wise with a 285/30/18

245/40/18 is still under 3% difference from stock so it should still work. I agree though that 245/35/18 @ 24.8" is preferred. That aside, 255/35/18 is as wide as you can go on an 8.5" rim. PS2s don't come in 285/30/18 and I think he wants wider anyway.

True, But Kuhmo v710 and Hoosiers do. Putting on a grippier tire that is a centimeter narrower, is still going to be faster. Don't worry about the width so much. There are many handling dynamics on these cars that can be adjusted. My car is almost as darty as a 914! Hoosier or Kuhmo are the way to go!!! I have several sets of tires: street tires, Pilot Sport Cups. Yes, I never (almost) drive in the rain. Hoosiers for A6 for AutoX and Toyo888's for the Track (I only run DE's or I'd run Hoosier R6 or Yoko Advan Slicks if I had time to clubrace).

PS - Hooiser 285's are as wide (within 1/8th of an inch) as their and most other manufacturers from a tred width standpoint.

If I were going to put flares on I'd run a 275/30/18 front and 315/30/18 - 25.5 and 25.6 inch diamaters respectively! That'd be some meat!

What is your configuration? I'm running -2.5 F and - 2.0 R. My sway
bars are set to stock Gt3 settings. In regard to going wider, it's
nice to have the option. There are others on rennlist that are running front widths as high as 285 w/o flares. I'd like the have the option (by going to a 9" rim) to experiment and see for myself how the dynamics of the car changes. From what I have heard 245/285 is a great combo that's tough to beat. Bumping up to to 255/295 would still keep the same ratio.

I will be going to R comps in time for next year's ax season.
Right now I'm looking for a good (and cheap) place to get them. You have any suggestions?

With my ride height and aggressive autoX courses I cannot go any larger than 245 in front. Guys who don't drive hard can run larger tires, I know that 245's at my settings required rolled fenders. They only barely rubbed on hard "near lock" turns, but wider would certainly have rubbed.

I am running a '99, and like yours it came with 7.5in wide fronts from the factory. 99 has a diff offset than all others. I do run a 7mm spacer in front with the later 5spokes and 5mm on rear. I was getting a slight run on my inner liners with the 285's (again, under extreme cornering).

For AutoX I run 2 away from "soft" front and 1 away from "hard" in the rear. These cars are built with understeer from the factory and I wanted my to be much more darty. With this configuration I can really move the rear around at will and the front digs in. At the track I tighten up the front 1 more click. My PSS9 were set at 4 front and 5 rear, I think! Everyone that drives the car is amazed. Nice to be light too!

It's a shame we're on diff sides of the country. I'd love to take you for a ride.

What R Comps are you looking at? Check out the magazine Grass Root Motorsports this month. They compare tires and the Hoosiers and Kuhmos are far better than anything else.

Nice pics....

You're car looks pretty low any idea on the measured height at the corners? My car is lowered to the point where the front control arms are parallel with the ground and there is a less than 1% front to rear rake.

As for my setup there is slight rubbing on the inside liners at full lock and during hard cornering as well.

I'm looking at Kumhos, NITTOs NT01, and TOYOs 888s. I will probably have two sets of rims so I'd run PS2s for street and the R Comps for track. I am leaning toward 888s for now but need to find a good place to get them from.

I run 245/40/18 front and 315/30/18 rear on stock settings and no problems.

Don't guess; know for sure with any tire size.

Run the sizes through this calculator: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

I did and I found out that a 325/30-19 dead on replaces my 275/40-18 OEM 360 rears.

Michelin recently introduced them in the Pilot Sport Cup series, and I just received mine today. Was the first batch of these tires available in the US.

They are massive! They are going on 11.5" HRE rims.
