Guards vs Black vs GT Silver....hmmmm

OK, so I’m torn if I were to order a new P car, which color would I choose. The C4S Cab in Guards looks like it rolled out of the factory last week, I take that good care of it that it stays pristine (nearly 4 yrs old). I don’t usually drive the P-car in bad weather, rain, etc. I keep it as clean as possible, but no California dusters, no car covers, etc. Garaged at home and at the office, but driven enough. I’m not ready to get rid of it, but in the next year or so I will likely spec out a new one. I’ve had two stunning Guards/Beige/Black 996’s and love the color.

There’s only one thing I like the looks of better, but have never owned: BLACK.

Guards: Stunning color, hides dirt well, perfect for a fast sports car, love the contrasting beige interior/black top/black mats, etc. Won’t tire of it.

Black: Sexy, awesome when clean, shows all dirt/dust, monotone with Black interior (likely choice), hides the lines of the 997TT well, would I tire of it?

I’ve considered Silvers (GT Silver). But there are so many, to me it’s dull, but it hides everything. Still dull, not likely for me. Dark, on the other hand, hides some of the quirky lines of the 997TT, and I really liked pictures of it in Black. I do not care for most dark metallics, so those are out.

Drove a Meteor/Black Cayman for a couple of days recently (C4S in for service) and really liked the simplicity of the black interior. But Black interiors spook the Obsessive-Compulsive side of me – a beige dash will need no care for a long time. A black dash needs a wipe down every few days.

Beige interiors show belt marks (seats). Black interiors don’t.

Like I said before, I like the contrast between exterior and interior. But if black/black, then maybe a silver center console or other bits would break it up enough. But….that Black is sort of talking to me.

Everyone I know has said the usual “Black is not a color, it’s a hobby” line.

So…PLEASE lay it on the line for me. Would you go Black? Is it really that much tougher than any other color to keep swirl free and clean looking? Should I stick to my usual Guards/Beige/Black configuration?

I do love Guards….but might be ready for a change. And no, probably no other color grabs me much (GT Silver is a far 3rd choice, even Cobalt is stunning but I doubt I’d own it). And again, I keep the car immaculately clean, but with Guards, I can go a few weeks and it still looks really clean. I know Black would show the dust in a day.

Yes, there is always medication.

THANKS

GUARDS

BLACK (pic is Basalt, but good look at Black)

GT silver is the best shade of silver I have seen in a long time. It shows all the lines of the car, has alot of metallic characteristics to it, and does not show dirt or swirl marks to the degree that a darker color does. Non-metallic black is a pain, having owned several cars in that color. Black shows dirt and swirl marks, and this drove me nuts. Mettalic black is not quite as bad. That being said, a clean black car is way hot!!

As far as interiors go, black looks great in the turbo. I have black in mine, and it does show some dust from time to time, but I just wipe it down. Have you thought about Steel/stone gray? I have that in my cayenne turboS, and it is very nice color, and doesnt show the dust/dirt that black does.

You cant really go wrong, whatever you choose. Good luck!!!

Eric, black is certainly beautiful but you sound as **** as I am and I think black would drive you nuts.

A few weeks ago I did a full detail on my car - wash, clay, polish, wax, the whole nine yards. The next morning I went outside thru the garage. At that particular time the sun was shining right into the garage onto the back of the car. I was horrified to see the amount of dust that had settled on the car. Black would be that much worse.

My car is not my DD, garaged, and not usually driven in bad weather. It's always clean - yet I manage to drive it quite a bit. Took delivery in early June and just turned 7K miles.

BTW, I would not worry about the black interior and keeping it clean. A quick wipe down with a damp MF towel once a week or so is fine.

You mentinoned you don't like the greys/silvers or cobalt. How about white or SY? White w/ sea blue interior, lots of leather and a bit of CF is a spectacular combo.

There are so many times I would have considered black if it weren't my problem with seeing swirlmarks, dust and keeping the car clean. I would spend more time cleaning it than driving it. So I went with White

But when Black is clean, the wheels are all shined up and the tires all dressed up it is a hard color to beat.

Tough choice. I would say go Black/Black Top/Natural Brown with Black Interior

Personally I always drive white (my new MY08 997 TT will be white w/black and to be born in February). If white were not my trademark - BLACK looks awesome (but I would go crazy with the dust and swirls too). I think the new yellow cab looks hot too - Barrier had one from the car show a few weeks ago.

Guards red with sand beige interior and guards red stitching, your usual Red/Beige colour combination and as you stated you will never get bored of it.

Get it with the Porsche exclusive leather floormats edging in red and the mats them selves are in black.

My 997 C2S was black, was my third black car, and will very likely be my last. There are some cars that I would have to get in black if I were to buy one but the 997 is not one of them. It looks good in so many different colours. My last car was garaged at work and at home but the dust that would show after just 1-2 days drove me crazy. Swirl marks is another story. It doesn't matter how **** you are when washing and drying it, there will be swirl marks. In the end, I was so happy to get rid of the car. My cobalt has been sitting for a good 2+ weeks now without a wash. I know it must be dusty, but I can't see it.

I'd go GR if that's what you like. If I were to get a darker colour, I'd go Atlas...looks stunning in the sunshine on the Turbo. It would likely still have the dust problem but the swirls would be much less.

i am using a black (non metallic) as a daily and i am surprised that it´s not impossible to keep it swirl free. I was really concerned about that and went to the same problems as you do now, but i´m happy that i took the risk.

OK, the winter will be hard and i think there is some detailing recommended in the spring

but can there be something better than that :

OK... your post sounds exactly like what I would write/ask If i were getting a 997. I'm not a fan of beige so i'm ruling that out for now. Black is dead sexy, and the depth to the color is great but there is something about guards that screams classic luxury sports car... Since I was a kid my jaw has dropped when I say a guards 993 and it still does on a 997.

I would do Guards/black interior/red belts/maybe red deviated stitching/blond in the passenger seat

Black/black interior/red or yellow belts/ definitely deviated stitching to give it some contrast/brunette in the passenger seat

I have owned two silver cars, and probably would not choose the color again. It keeps clean easily and lasts, but I think it lacks depth. Would probably do an Atlas color.

I don't think I'm making your decision any easier, but its a good problem to have Good luck

I understand every bit of emotion you have approaching this decision...I have 2 black cars and two silver/arctic cars....

When clean...for about 10 mins...or in certain lighting conditions and at night...the black cars are unbeatable...they drip sex...black liquid...just perfect imo

but the silver cars always look clean, are worry free and can be driven with abandon, then return to the garage in the same condition...peace of mind there for sure

knowing your personality, the black cars will require you to let go before you can really enjoy them, and I don't know if you want to let go...but if you do, black can be enjoyed also, even between washes...

if it were me...and soon it will be...I will not go black, for the mere reason I want to enjoy the car, not worry about the paint....
