09 Carerra will be 998?
Just got a call from the dealer today that the 09 Carerra will be 998. I have seen the new face lift pics on the web, but I thought the model change is tied to new design, and not minor face lift and engine upgrades. He also mentioned that there is no new turbo coming out for 09, it will be the same as 08. But the first pics I saw on the web is for the turbo, with very minor tail light design change, and an additional 20 HP. Can anyone help confirm this?
mdc, your dealer is an idiot. There's no way that the 09's will be 998s. The 997s are rumored to get the newer updates for '09 but no one knows for sure. No one but Porsche themselves.
Couldnt agree more. NO 998!!!!!!!!!!!! Your dealer dosent know wtf is going on!I hope they never call it a 998 pisses me off!

There was some talk last year that the Carrera 1000 would be the final iteration of the Car as a rear engine model and would be a 4.0 litre Boxer 6 with the acknowledgment by Porsche that a 4.0 litre is the maximum physical capacity of that engine design.
One of the main changes outside of the small design change is the M97 motor rumor. Which to most mainstream people who just buy cars for cars it won't matter. The GT1 motor is rumored to stay with only the GT designations. How much is fact? Mostly speculation at the moment but would not be something that is out of the ordinary for Porsche and their profitability.
It will be intresting what will become of the rumor mill and or the GT1 Motor for the Turbo's. I guess real purist will prefer the GT1 but most will not know the difference or perhaps even care as long as it runs without too many problems.
3.8 or 4.0 will not be out of the question to get the numbers they need to complete with the likes of Viper, Vettes, GT-R, Ferrari and Lambo. Aston is guess could be put in there but is not compared as often. I am sure there are more than enter the fray but those are my choices at the moment
