Question for AWE

On your 700HP kit, are your tubos "all new" turbos or are the compressor wheels just bigger?

I'm very interested in your kit but trying to understand if I really need to change my Proto. moddified VTGs or not.

I look forward to seeing you guys at Curry's on the 5th of April...hope you bring your Turbo down

I'll leave it for AWE to definitively respond but compressor wheels that have the same diameter can have very different flow characteristics. Unless they one knows the compressor maps for both the Proto turbos and the AWE turbos, it is unlikely that one tuner's programming would be optimal for the other's turbo. The really great feature of the AWE kit is the drivability is indistinguishable from stock - I cannot imagine how much effort was needed to achieve this.

Eugene,

Thanks for the input. When you got your kit, did you notice that the compressor end of the new turbos were larger in diameter?

Eugene - That is a very enticing statement. When Mike gave me a ride in their car, it seemed that way but when he blipped the throtle - holy sh*t. Unfortunately their location is not very conducive to demonstrating what 700HP is really like. An aside - love my (your) splitters.

Our turbos are modified OEM VTG units, using a larger compressor side.

We've never seen the Proto units in person, so I can't comment on how they may differ.

I do know that there is a larger than what we are using compressor wheel that can fit in the OEM housing, but we decided against using it when analyzing compressor maps. The wheel we are using is very well matched to the compressor housing, exhibiting excellent low end and high end results. Too big of a wheel for the housing can cause surge due to the wheel moving more air than what the housing can flow.

Duffy-

You need to come back. It's faster now then it was when you were last here!

I want to take you out on the Turnpike and waste some gas!

In this time when gas is approaching $4 a gallon, gas is definitely a commodity to be wasted! Go, Duffy, go!

Jason - My car is being trucked next week-end to Detailing Dynamics to get the clear bra installed. I am going to fly in to pick it up and drive it home. AWE is not too far out of my way so, if timing allows, I am going to stop by and "waste some gas."

Duffy - I would join you. I could meet up w/ you at Detailing Dynamics & then take a drive over to AWE. If it is okay w/ AWE of course.
