May Be A Stupid Question, But Here It Goes . . .

Why do some 997TTs have a round steering wheel while others have a triangular one??

I take it you mean the center of the wheel; either that or you have been smoking some bad ****!

Thanks. You can have a triangular wheel without multifunction though. Actually, I got the answer on another forum. The triangular without multifunction is the standard wheel. The round is - as you said - the thicker sport steering wheel option.

AFAIK, there are 5 wheels:
1. Regular Round (Sport)
2. Thick Round (Sport)
3. Thin Triangular MF
4. Thick Triangular MF
5. Triangular without MF

No 1. is standard for the Turbo.
2. is XPA option. One of my most favorite options in my car, and the same wheel as in the GT2.
3 & 4 are both larger in diameter, but thinner in grip size of rim, than 1 & 2, and lack thumb rests at 2 and 10 o'clock.
I have seen no. 5 on non-Turbo 997, but not sure if it's available on the Turbo.

Diameter refers the overall diameter of the wheel. Thick/think refers to the grip size of the rim.

I checked the 2008 Turbo Order Guide and the Car Configurator and you can get the thicker grip steering wheel with Y-spoke (triangular) center and without Multi-Function (MF), but you have to order the following combination:

459 - Three Spoke Steering Wheel in Smooth Leather - $0.00
CPA – Thicker Multi-Function Steering Wheel in Leather - $930.00

Strangely, this will give you the thicker grip, triangular center without MF even though CPA is described with MF. Of course, if you just want the thinner grip with triangular center and without MF, order only 459.

I also confirmed that the standard steering wheel on the Turbo is with the thinner grip, round center. If you want the thicker grip, order:

XPA – Thicker Steering Wheel in Leather - $310.00

So, bottom line if you want the thicker grip it will cost you an extra $310.00 with the round center wheel or an extra $930.00 with the triangular center wheel (with or without MF). I ordered the thicker grip, round center wheel on my TT due for early July delivery.

XPA is the best solution. Relatively inexpensive option, best wheel. Functionality of the MF wheel is pretty sputnik-like anyway.

If anyone needs one, I have an extra standard (triangular) MF wheel without the airbag. PM if interested. Comes with the button covers for those without the MF option.....
