How Could You Rationalize a 911 Turbo?

Ok so many other things you could drop 150+ thousand dollars on!!!

Just to name a few; better performing cars (some would argue) for less than 1/2 the price!!!
Z06;some Mitsubishi or Subaru;GT-R;

Maybe a more reasonably priced sports car:
Nissan 350Z; Mazda RX8;

so many other cars for so much less....

Why a 911 Turbo? at 150K+?

Well, I think it is for the same reason people buy a Rolex, Movado, etc.. You could buy a Timex....(probably equal or better quality)
Same reason why people by Louis Vuiton (spelling?) instead of a walmart brand.
Same reason why people by Diesel jeans instead of Levi's (definitely better quality in Levi's)

Sure the quality and durability of all the "lesser" brands may surpass that of the designer brands, but we buy them because they sort of define who we are. (shallow?? maybe.. but then maybe we should all be wearing Levi's, Timex Watch, walmart no name purses/wallets, Non-designer glasses, Folger's coffee and be "practical" in every aspect of our lives!)

But the clothes I wear, the cologne I use, the food I eat, the home I live in, the coffee I drink, the shades I wear all define who I am (and who you are)

So, the car I drive, also defines who I am.

Question is, what kind of impression does a 911 have? compared to say a corvette, a lambo, a ferrari?

I'd be interested on your comments.
(i know, i am rambling... had too much coffee this morning..)

To me it’s a stature and defines who you are to a certain point. A true enthusiast's (speaking of vehicles and your $150K example) move to flaunt a level exceeding the other brands doesn’t mean that person is shallow. It is sometimes sad to see society is laid out for wealth, charm, and the finer things in life pending what might be the discussion but lets face it… it’s life. Anyone improving to such a degree through hard work and enjoyment through purchasing material things are a display of class and or success. And not to leave out… enjoyment also comes from heritage and upbringing so few seem to purchase for a brand loyal step.<O</O

My quick two cents.<O</O

just tired of people looking at me strange for driving such an expensive car.
I live in STL not OC California or Miami Florida.
A little different daily experience.
People out here drive Trucks and Big SUV's
I guess you could say, they are more practical.

997ttt - I do not understand your rationalization.

I am assuming that you drive a 997TT correct? If so then you have a problem with it yourself not that people have a problem with you driving it.

The 997TT is an understated elegance and most of the people that you say drive an SUV or Truck in your area most likely do not know that your car is different from a 997 so you are making assumptions they know you are driving a 150K car. To them its a nice porsche not a TURBO 150K porsche. The Turbo badging doesn't give it away to the common onlooker.

So will you sell it because you are getting too much attention? I would find that odd and a poor excuse if I ever heard of one.

If someone works hard for their money and can afford to own a 997TT then they by all rights deserve to be looked at for their sucessess. I make no excuse for my purchases as I worked hard for them. I didn't buy it to impress my friends because most of the people I am around wouldn't know the difference between a 997 or 997TT. They just think they are expensive because they are over 80K. I do not run with the BIG DOGs because I am still a puppy on the porch

If you can't handle the occasional onlooker than this car is not for you.

if you have to rationalize - you should not drive it.

To me - it is one of the best built sports cars I've own to date, I enjoy EVERY drive ..

that is good enough for me!

I think you should buy a "better performing" Subaru or Mitsubishi.

While you're drinking too much coffee, continue to ponder the other things that have the same subjective perspective as why you picked one girl over another.

It's time to put down the coffee and get some sleep.

I buy what I like. I've driven many sports cars, but I keep coming back to the 911 turbo. By the way here are pics. of my P43s in satin charcoal. Just waiting for the front tires to come in. The wheels are being installed by GMP. These wheels look amazing. I'll post a pic. when they are installed.

When you start thinking of cars as art you begin to understand the 911 much better.
