Axle differential lock is it must need option?

How important is a Axle differential lock if I'm not planning to track? Would it be that helpful on the twisty when just out driving around? Looking at a couple different turbos but one doesn't have this option...

On the street only...dont think you would miss it. But for hammering out of turns it sure does a nice job. I think for the money it would be foolish not to order it, but if your looking at used Turbos or new ones on the lot and dont plan on tracking I would not sweat it.

Can you go into more detail to why? I would like to know how much it helps a street car? I understand if I was tracking or dragging it, how it helps but is it noticeable in spirited driving on the street?

I'm getting it on mine, that's for sure. Anything that helps traction on this car is a plus. Word is that it might be standard equipment on the '09s.

Meaker -

There are more Porsche cars on the street which do not have it than those which do . Even on the Turbo only select models of the 997tt have it and the Tiptronic does not .
Unlike a two wheel drive track car like a Gt3 or a front engine car like a BMW the AWD Turbo may be more confidence inspiring if the option is included but in no way would a NON LSD Turbo be a bad or a wrong choice . Either car is outstanding .

As for retrofit --I've read it can't be done --but it can (lol) . It's expensive though . Some European tuners even have their own upgraded axle lock like 9ff and I even think Techart may have one as well but am not sure.

As for Porsche including it in 09 AWD cars I did read that but also keep in mind that porsche also has a winter driving school in Finland and many buy AWD for all weather types of driving --not just the track.

Thanks yaralis1, I not going to let it be the deciding factor between the 2 turbo I'm looking at....
