Unhappy Slow leak

Left rear is losing about 5lbs a week. Called the dealership and they insisted on a replacement vs. any sort of plug due to speed rating(BS I am sure). Anyone plugged a small puncture on their turbo. Called America's Tire and they were happy to plug it as long as no side wall etc. Given we have pressure sensors, I can see no danger of a catastrophic failure doing a plug. Thoughts?

Plug it...you will be just fine. If it's not on the side wall and you are not racing...plug it

How many miles are on your tires? If you decide on replacing the tire, and have significant miles on the tires, the least you will need to do is replace a pair, of not all four.

Have a decent tire shop pull the tire off the rim to plug AND patch the tire if you do not anticipate high speeds. If you are going to be going fast for any period of time, you should replace the tire.

Only have 6k miles and lots of rubber, have not tracked the car yet. On occasion will do 100-120 mph, but mainly speed limit +10. Not anticipating any 150mph-200 runs any time soon

The proper fix is to dismount and use a patch/plug. The plug is actually pulled through the inside and is attached to a patch. It's kind of like an oversized rubber nail that is pulled through the hole. Add a little rubber cement to the patch and that tire is as good as new. That tire will never leak from that hole and you can run that it as hard as you like. Good luck.

Quick update, dropped the car yesterday at American Tire in Napa. They removed the nail and did a plug patch as LA TECH describes. The manager who knows his sh*t, also said the tire will never leak again from the patch. Great service and it was done at no charge....I could not talk him into charging me! So the boys at the shop had lunch today on me. $70 of pizza, beats a $600 tire any day

The tire may not leak but retains a weak spot . I know it can work and is cheaper but you have a lot riding on those tires . 600 bucks is pennies for dollars in terms of peace of mind but maybe I'm just way too neurotic.

I just had the same experience with a front tire with only 1600 miles on it. Had it plugged first then replaced it (Pirelli for $320). Your warranty on the tire is voided if you drive with a plug. Not worth the risk - chances are you will go very fast at some point on that tire!!!

That's awesome. I only recommend to others what I have proven to work myself. Now lets use all that money you saved on another mod.

Keep a look out for those nails. They pop up everywhere.

No plug. I would replace. Just for the warm and fuzzy feeling at high speeds and cornering.
