Looking to Purchase 997TT

What's up everyone, I'm close to purchasing a 997TT and I just have a couple questions and concerns, hopefully you guys can help out (although I'm new here, I still know how to search, I just couldn't find much).

I plan on building and ordering a 997TT, Carrera white, sport bucket seats, alacantra interior, etc...How long does the process normally take? I talked to a salesman at HBL Porsche and he told me its 4 months if I want to build/order a 997TT, is that accurate?

After delivery, I plan on adding the Werks front lip, Werks rear wing and Werks rear diffuser. I picked up the Werks catalog from the dealership and I really liked the aero products they offer. My one concern is, will the rear diffuser conflict with any kind of aftermarket exhaust or headers?

Thanks.

Four months for a build? Seems long. 3-4 weeks + 2-3 for exclusive items at most. My guess is that your dealer doesn't have a build allocation until 2 months, after which you car will be built.

The diffuser shouldn't interfere with any exhaust or header system.

Seems about right to me. First, you need to find a dealer with a changeable allocation - lately, it seems cars are become non-changeable about 1-2 months before production begins. Production goes quickly, but the car then has to wait for the next shipment. Shipping, clearing port, transport to the dealer, and dealer prep all take time - figure about 4-6 weeks. Four months seems reasonable. I waited 6 months for mine, but is a 2009 and I could have had a 2008 a few months sooner.

If you are flexible on the options, some dealer may have an incoming car that meets your needs. You might even get a decent discount. Or you can save about $40-50K and buy a used 2007.

Honestly, I thought maybe the sales guy was just telling me 4 months to get me to buy the black one they had on the lot (which was sold the very next day). Anyway, thanks for the info guys, and I hope to put my order in for a white one soon, and dress it up in some beautiful Werks aero products!

Another thing that ran through my head, if the cream white is nicer than carrera white. Does anyone have pics of a cream white 997? Just curious to see how it looks.

the black one on the lot i imagine was an 08 turbo. there are several of them still left, but my problem with them was that the dealers were not giving much off on these new 08's-these cars are now one year old, and have suffered the depreciation of a 1 year old car-with 09's just about to arrive at the dealers, you would have to get a sizeable discount to make the purchase of an 08 financially reasonable. i found one that had an msrp of about 135-the dealer only wanted to give a few thousand off of this new 08 turbo-it didn't make sense to me. another problem that i found was that several of these 08's were highly optioned-many with options i would have never ordered. even if the dealer gave you a good discount, i still would have wound up paying over 135k for the 08 car. to me, it only would have worked if i could have found a lightly equipt 08 that the dealer was willing to give about 10k off, and i had no luck there.

I bought an 07 and an 08 turbo. Both had special options. Each took about 6 weeks to get to my dealer at that time, who is located about 20 miles from HBL.

It is my understanding that Baltimore is the East Coast port of entry for Porsche as it is for Toyota, Honda and other manufacturers. I don't know if this has any effect on delivery time.

4 months is too long IMHO.

No word on the 2009... As the economy crashes and financing dries up, I can not imagine the Porsche dealers being very happy with the delays.

Regarding the "savings," I was thinking a highly optioned 2009 might come in at $150K while I have seen at least a couple of 2007's with similar options selling for $105-110K. The 2007's had lower MSRP's so the $40-50K statement applies when comparing the MSRP of a well optioned 2009 to a heavily discounted used 2007. The large spread is due to the fact that options are almost worthless at resale. PCCB costs $8K from the factory and seems to add little to the used price. New car sales are down about 30% across the board, so used car prices will probably get hammered further than they already have over the next few weeks.

Europe

Have you considered a European pick up? Not sure it would save any time but you'd at least drive it for awhile, have a unique vacation experience, before it gets shipped to your home. I hear it's a fantastic experience and one I will do next time around.
Regardless of which way you go, plan on a few sleepless nights as the anticipation gets acute.

Surprisingly, European delivery actually takes longer...not exactly sure why. Go figure.

in summary, 4 months from order to delivery is about right-if you would order a car in october, and get delivery in january, that is about normal. if you could latch onto someone's october build slot, you would get delivery in early december, but at this date, you would not be able to customize the car-you would have to take whatever was ordered previously, as that car is frozen in (non changeable order-an october car probably is changeable until about early sept). if you ordered the car, and found a november build, you are just at about the end of your ability to customize it, so i would put a rush on your efforts if you want to order it and make sure that a november build is still customizeable. in addition, i have heard that they are only making 09's (turbos) for the first six months of the year. in addition, keep your eyes open as to deliveries of the 09's-a bunch of people have ordered 09's that have already been built and have been sitting for a month or more in port in the usa, but due to some certifying problem, which porsche isn't commenting on, the cars are not as of yet being delivered and are remaining in port-i would watch what happens there-not exactly a usual happening for them to keep a type of car at the port and not delivered deposited cars for over a month. hope that helps. good luck
